I guess Segway failed due to the fact it wasn't advertised as a Health contributor. I think Toyota has better chance here.

The guy who invented the Segway, Dean Kamen, claimed the aparatus would solve the world's personal transport problems. It hasn't. At the sticker price it only solved the question of sense and cents. Plus all the bans all over the world didn't help it either.

I think the problem was less in the marketing and more in the cost of the technology at the time. Had he waited until Lithium-Ion batteries are in mass production he could have sold them for peanuts. Not to mention Toyota wouldn't have had the chance to steal the idea as the Japanese so often do.
