New Ford Ka

Despite Ford Europe releasing new images and a press release today of the all-new second generation Ford Ka, we are none the wiser. Following the leaked images from a few days ago, Ford has decided not to tell us anything new in their issued press release. Such a move leads us to believe that the leaked images forced them to react earlier than planned, resulting in just a few new images being released to take advantage of the moment. Naturally, Ford is saving the details for the Ka's debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October.

Nonetheless, we do know that the new Ka will be produced in Tychy, Poland, as confirmed by a recent Ka prototype spied nearby the plant. The next generation Ford Ka shares its platform with the Fiat 500, which is also assembled in the Tychy plant, but not only that. The engines, a 1.25-litre petrol powerplant and a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel, already offered in the Italian car, will also be available for the Ka, probably with different specifications. More powerful motors will be used in the future, to challenge other “pocket rockets” like the Renault Twingo RS.

The first generation Ka has been on the market since 1996 with over 1.4 million vehicles units produced.

FRESH, FUNKY AND FUN – INTRODUCING THE ALL-NEW FORD KA

  • Paris Show debut for all-new Ford Ka
  • Bold, fashionable and stylish design
  • Full of youthful and cheeky Ka spirit
  • Exciting successor to the iconic original

Cologne, August 1, 2008 – The exciting new Ka, Ford’s fresh, fun and funky small car, will take centre-stage at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October.

The all-new Ford Ka brings new levels of style and enjoyment to affordable city cars.

Twelve years after the original Ka was launched to great acclaim, its successor captures the same youthful and cheeky spirit. The new model retains all of the qualities which made the Ka so popular – its compact size, great looks, lively dynamics and fun personality – but presents them in a fresh new package.

Stylish Inside and Out

Ford designers have given the new Ka a fashionable, modern appearance based around the company's 'kinetic design' form language. A number of visual cues provide a connection to the original Ka, but with its distinctive face and chunky proportions the new model has its own unique character.

The interior of the new Ka also has a stylish, dynamic design, combining bold contrasts and expressive colours which reflect the more adventurous tastes of the typical Ka buyer.

Rebirth of a Design Icon

The new model is destined to continue the considerable success of the original Ford Ka, which is widely considered to be an automotive design icon. Launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1996, the Ka was immediately praised for its exciting “New Edge” styling and class-leading driving dynamics.

Throughout its 12-year life the Ka has remained tremendously popular among small-car buyers, inspiring fierce loyalty from its owners. In total, Ka production has exceeded 1.4 million vehicles.

Further information on the new Ford Ka range will be released in time for the Paris Motor Show in early October 2008.

its hideous! the interior colors are all over the place and the ka logo in the middle of the dash is downright tacky. You could be kind enough to say its simply a budget fiat 500 but what they've done is take a 500 and remove all the style, quality and refinement. on the plus side at least theres a glove box

Right, because you can tell the quality and refinement from three highly retouched web photos.

wow, the design language doesn't work well on this small scale, and why does what was a cute city car (remeber the comercial with kyle minogue) need those Mercedes ML wheel arches and hundrets of fighting highlight creases? and whats up with the american office beige coloured interior!? j mays should better care what the competition is doing, cause that's not working in the blue ovals favour. sorry.

I like it, looks nice. The interior looks awesome, and the Ka logo is a nice detail It has to be cheaper than the 500 though since the Ka aims a different market group

Back on, it looks like a wheel barrow. But I drove a bit in the old model and though it was cheap as hell it was a great drive - responsive and fun.

No dought the old model is much better , as the kentik design would not fit a smaller size than Fiesta
