Despite receding SUV sales in North America, Mercedes is boasting about 10,000 Western European orders for the GLK-Class by the end of July. With its Beijing debut this past April, the GLK is scheduled to start deliveries in Western Europe this October and in the U.S. early 2009.

Furthermore, Mercedes has received 1,000 orders for the special “Edition 1” model. More specifically, every fourth GLK order in Germany is an “Edition 1” vehicle. The Edition 1 model features 20 inch wheels, EASY-PACK tailgate, privacy glass, interior sports package with black-white nappa leather from the disigno range, AMG leather steering wheel, black roof lining, aluminum trim and COMAND APS system.

In the spring of 2009 Mercedes will offer the economical BlueEFFICIENCY package on the GLK 220 CDI featuring a new four-cylinder diesel engine.

New Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class Posts Impressive Number of Incoming Orders

  • 10,000 orders in Western Europe alone just one month after vehicle was released for sale
  • Already 1,000 orders for exclusive “Edition 1” model
  • Customers especially appreciate the GLK’s attractive design, extensive safety features, and typical Mercedes-Benz driving comfort

Stuttgart – Mercedes-Benz’ new compact SUV has met with an outstanding response from customers in the first month after the vehicle was released for sale on June 30, 2008. In Western Europe alone, Mercedes-Benz has already received a total of 10,000 orders for a GLK-Class vehicle by the end of July. Deliveries of the GLK, which celebrated its world premiere at the Auto China show in Beijing at the end of April, are scheduled to commence in Western Europe in October, with market launch in the U.S. set to follow at the beginning of 2009.

The exclusive GLK “Edition 1” variant has already attracted a lot of interest even before its official introduction to the market, as Mercedes-Benz has received 1,000 orders for the special model to date. In Germany, every fourth GLK order is an “Edition 1” vehicle. The special model will only be available for the launch of the GLK-Class. Among other things, the high-end model will feature a specially designed exterior and interior with a sports package as well as an AMG multifunction leather steering wheel.

“Apparently the GLK-Class perfectly meets the current trends,” says Dr. Klaus Maier, head of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The GLK is a compact SUV that has everything that is typical for a Mercedes-Benz: an expressive design, extensive safety features, and the typical Mercedes-Benz driving comfort. Moreover, it impresses customers with its outstanding performance in both on and off-road applications.”

The media response to initial GLK-Class test drives was also very positive. During a three-week driving presentation on all types of terrain in July, a total of 600 international media representatives were able to experience for themselves the superior driving quality offered by the model series. Thanks to its AGILITY CONTROL chassis, the GLK boasts excellent handling and safety combined with outstanding driving comfort. In addition, the model’s variable 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and electronic stability control ensure perfect on-road performance, and reliability in off-road applications.

Mercedes-Benz offers four and six-cylinder engines for the GLK that are both powerful and economical. The brand will also begin offering a BlueEFFICIENCY model in the spring of 2009 in the form of the GLK 220 CDI featuring a new four-cylinder diesel engine. The GLK-Class boasts pioneering passive safety systems, excellent interior comfort and low noise, and a high level of value retention. Mercedes-Benz is also making available for the first time in this vehicle class state-of-the-art systems such as the PRE-SAFE® safety package and the ILS intelligent light system.

american sales continue to slump. people hate on the benz but its doing amazing and there is nothing the limons can do about it. sales increasing with profits. american companies losing billions.

lol, they sold 10,000 in europe? and thats considered amazing? if it was 100,000 I would consider that to be a bigger success. Most american suv's sell in the couple hundreds of thousands of units a year.

That's 10,000 on launch Limon, not for the whole year. But either way... Europe will never be as big a market for wasteful 4WD vehicles I guess.

Bollux! It is quite an impressive auto! It looks very nice and I wish I could get one. But petrol prices here in the states are too high for me to enjoy such a fine piece of machinery.

Nurchus are you high? Fuel Prices in Europe (and most of the rest of the world) are way higher than in the US.

i'm sure that at least in europe 90% of those cars will be diesel powered. Btw. here people have gas 3 to even 4 times more expensive than in the US, so You really should not complain. Americans just got used to too cheap gasoline.

I can well appreciate the marques of MB but such a barge on wheels has become the bling language of the rich who secretly crave to have street cred`. Cry Cayenne, for you have been dethroned.

Brian, designo is spelt incorrectly on line 9, paragraph 2. You spelt it as "disigno" and not designo

alessandro
August 2, 2008 9:32 PM
It is just a fingertip misprint. DESIGNO is not a word in any language, mistake probably caused by knowing italian word DISEGNO.

Drop in the 6.2 V8 and make an AMG version and it will cause some serious competition for the Range Rover Sport and to some degree...the Cayenne.

The ML63 is too fat and bloated. This is just what we need!

i think this is an amzaing looking car alot better than the x3 and the q5. the x3 is too old and boring and the q5 too fat looking... it probably does help that i am a mercedes fan but hey aint it just a great looking car???

August 3, 2008 1:57 AM
babymilo i a hardcore bmw fan but i agree with you, the X3 is ugly, by far the ugliest in the current bmw line up. audi is just sorry. but this benz really does look good, they make boxy cars look pretty darn good along with land rover.

The Bmw x6 by far has all of the suv's beat in performance and looks. It especially looks better than that man standing next to that hearse looking ride.

August 3, 2008 10:10 PM
Definitely better looking than the ML! Hopefully it wont have a ridiculous price attached to the good looks.

August 3, 2008 11:02 PM
t17 yep the bmw x6 xdrive50i does by far outperform every suv in the market, even the porsche cayenne turbo with 500hp. sadly, a lot of people are still convince that the cayenne turbo still outperforms the x6 even if its not true...

It's the ugliest Benz of the lineup
