It loses 90kgs and gains 40hp my ass lol.
We all know and have seen dynos of the GT0R actually making 480 @ THE WHEELS! meaning the GT-R actually makes around 520crankhp.
This car makes 520 ? Nooo, it obviously doesnt, i estimate this car will be putting down around 600hp in reality.
Im not saying Nissan under-rating their cars is a bad thing...They have their reasons but the truth is truth and for us buyers, its a great thing.
However, even if it is faster than a Corvette the cars still aren't totally rivals so Chevy wouldn't have to worry too much, same goes vice versa for Nissan.
The GT-R is essentially one of the worlds fastest 2+2 Coupes.
The ZR1, is a 2 seater sports car and even if it is slower...its a different car as its far more of a "Drivers Car" as the only aid you truly get is TCS unlike the GT-Rs 4WD.
Neither set-up is bad, they're just different cars, pretty much for different people.
However, i would easily own both in my dream garage alongside an ACR(Viper), 997GT-2, SL65 BS, and a Lotus Exige :)

This practice is ok as look as manufacturers don't abuse it. That is exactly why I don't like the fact that Nissan has been bragging since the beginning that their car "puts the power to the wheels" more efficiently. Utter bulldung! It kicks the 911 GT2 and all other competitors in the rear because it has more horsepower and a better gearbox, not because it's "more efficient" !

It does get power to the ground better than the 911 because it is more balanced and has a more advanved AWD system. It also has meatier tires and large 20 inchers. "The axles are assembled on hydrolic rigs that replicate the weight of the car so that the geometry is perfect before they assemble the suspension." So it has better suspension, a better engine, better transmission, better awd system, better drag ratio, the engine in a a better place, and costs half of a 911. Its also more even more practical than a 911. Its a no brainer.
The reason why Nissan said 480hp is so that they can give an estimate that is not over rated. You have to remember that each engine is hand built in a air tight room. This means that each engine has a slightly different HP rating than the other. Also and the assembly process becomes more and more familiar to the assemblers you can probably expect the build quality to go up along with HP.

130,000?? that's a little extreme for only 90kg lost and a gain of only 40 hp. seriously. i think amuse, or the other nissan GTR tuners do a better job for less don't they?? just a simple exhaust replacement kit increases hp by 40 hp, and they tune handling and everything and they look nicer than this too. anyways. It's total bullshit :P haha they really are making more than that. also, isn't each engine made differently?? different outcomes?? sweet :D

LOL at how you think 130,000 is expensive. down in aus the normal spec R35 is closer to 200,000

are u kidding me?? i said for what you GET aka ONLY a 40 hp increase and 90kg weight reduction. are you PROUD of paying 200,000 for a NISSAN!?!? seriously man, you guys should complain haha. isn't the stock nissan like 80,000 and maybe some 50,000 markups from the dealership etc.etc...??? so for this to be 130,000, along with mark ups from the dealership that's a HUGE rip. At least make it 100hp more or something more worthy, and more weight reduced. then you can maybe sell it off.

...I have been a Skyline fan since the early 90s and I am still a fan...but let us not forget the Corvette ZR1 supercharged engine can be tuned higher and with the additional displacement it could certainly beat any numbers put out by the GTR...but as Xanavi23 said they are both sports cars but not direct rivals...though the $ 130,000 price tag does make the Corvette ZR1 look like the performance car value it is...let us all

The GT-R did a 1.19.07 on the topgear power lap that's impressive and there's not many cars faster than that! the v-spec will be another benchmark to beat despite the price, it would still be worth it!!!!

xanavi23: true, ZR1 and GT-R are two completely different animals, both are superb indeed. But the 130,000$ refers to Europe, I think.

Ok, so the overall price tag for the V-spec nissan Is up by about 60k, or something like that? that's the price for a 200 lb reduction and a 40 hp gain? Hmmmm... What sort of materials did the people at Nissan used to obtain this? Cause as a consumer, I would like to know that my money is being well spent, that it's truly worth it for that price.

i doubt it really gonna be that much. c'mon now seriously. Nissan know they have a powerhouse but they are not that greedy. $80,000 w/ $50,000 dealer mark up would be more believable. i'm sure over time things will become more clear

with nissan's white lie i am still waiting for a 70 hp boost,i've heard 550 hp...with 200lbs less weight,40hp - 70 hp more, ceramic brake, tweaked ATTESA, harder suspension maybe a new one, i'll cash 60k usd anytime if i have it..thumbs up to the ZR1, but the v - spec will smash the current record

You can have a 40 hp gain or a 70 hp gain. There is no lieing here

I think Road and Track might have missed the mark a little here. I seriously cannot fathom how Nissan can double the price of the standard GT-R while only offering modest upgrades. For that kind of price hike, I'd expect a lot more. I agree with Phobos, Nissan needs to put in a more powerful engine, ceramic brakes, carbon panels, hardcore drivetrain, in order to satisfy us.

The "normal" one has two things that make it so desirable: performance and price. Don't get me started on looks, that subjective and if you ask me, it is as ugly as a slightly smoothed brick! Even with dubious pricing by dealers, the car is still loved by performance figures geeks and teenagers around the planet.
This one retains the 12 year old styling, ups the performance a bit and adds new toys. The pricing has all but doubled and considering this will be imported in even smaller numbers than the GTR, I think the dealer markups have little chance of dropping.

If you want a nissan GTR, get a GTR, but I would get a Porsche 959 instead.

only thing that surprises me about the GT-R's speed is its weight, everything else is not a surprise at all. electronic 4WD to handle a turbocharged huge engine with variable this and that, double clutch gearbox that simple does not miss a heart beat and of course, a very balanced weight with that gearbox/clutch unit mounted at the back.

i have a normal r35 in dubai and it is a good car and all but it is to fragiel i also have a g55 amg it has done 1 hole year with out breaking down once but the r35 has just done over 2000 miels and has broken down twice

i Cant wait for the V-SPEC to come out, if the GT-R can manage a 7.29 on the nurburgring and a 1.19.07 on the top gear power circuit (and that's 7th place on the tg record chart) the v-spec will be more fine tuned and balanced. Expect record results.
