In early 2004 we had a small but very informative conversation with a highly-placed source at BMW. The person revealed that the then-new 6 Series would indeed go quite above 300kW. Much higher. It turned out reference was to the M6, all 378kW of it. That’s not the very interesting part by the way; your yawns are telling. That part is the story of a “lightweight” 6, something we might call an M6 CSL. Our source confirmed the future production of such a model, but claimed it probably won’t be badged a CSL. And while we trust this source almost 100 percent, we can’t help but nervously look at the clock, relentlessly ticking away. New model 6 is due out in 2010, yet we still have no M6 CSL.
Meanwhile, a growing number of insiders are talking about an M3 CSL, slated for the year 2010. It is said to carry about 100kg less than the standard 4.0-litre V8, but adds at least 30 bhp in the process, giving it a 4.5 second shoot from zero to 60 mph. Excess fat will be trimmed ala the usual suspect material, carbon fiber. Slicker rubber as well as other minuses will ensure these performance figures. What of the Nürburgring though? A time of 7:45 is thought to be the target for that.

now i desagree with mortz and smokeonit1... i think that the front end is lovely BUT the rear end is too plain and boring to be a BMW... now i love all of BMW's designs(exept the x6) but this just isnt doin it for me...

I think the rear end on this car looks better than the currrent M6. If they tried to go about "fixing it", they just might spoil a good thing. the 0-60 sprint time however, may need some adjusting. Being 1 second faster than your little brother (the M3) is not much of an achievement. Whatever materials they are using for the sake of weight reduction, they better use it in generous amounts. Wisely, but generous.

Meh... another POS design by BMW. Not as bad as Bangle's or that Japanese guy that made the new 3 series saloon look horrid, but still not what I like. 2007 is the year I stopped liking BMW.
However, the question still remains; is this M6 going to be off the 5 series chassis like the current M6/6 series?

First of, that's a typical wannabe designer concept. By CGI standards it looks awful, the modeling is loose and details are inconsistent. I'm not going to comment too much on the quality of the design, that's subjective. I'll just say it doesn't add up, the front is a modern 6series-like design, while the whole rear end is straight and squareish, reminescent of the old BMW design school, the one people seem to love again since Bangle. So my subjective opinion is that this car is a lesser design than the current 6 series, as it lacks unity... One more thing, before accusing me of being a "jealous basher", you have to know I'm a professional 3d artist specialized in vehicles, so I know a thing or two about modeling vehicles. You can say whatever you want about my opinion on the design though, that's a subjective matter.

We're the customers so we're less likely to notice imperfections in rendering quality.
It's the same "problem" (for lack of a better definition) when showing architectural work to a client or another architect. The feedback you get is differrent.
For my relatively untrained eye, and very little experience in automotive rendering, I'd take this result over most of the PS rendering I can muster.
WCF have uploaded renderings of vehicles that were executed far worse than this one here (Citroen 2CV). The technical execution is pretty darn good here in my opinion.

No worries, I get your point of view ;) I'm just trying to put things into perspective about the quality of design and execution as far as shapes go. I'm sure that with some experience and more work (designs like this need more that one pass to get a good final shape), that rear can look a lot better while still keeping it's feel, right now the car looks a bit "melted" :(

Got a site we can look at? On another note, the rendering does not seem to reflect the current direction BMW is moving towards, with the CS concept and then the new 7 series (which was inspired a lot by the CS). Plus, the CSL shouldnt be a different car (desing wise), all it should be (in a nutsheel) is more powerful, less weight...oh, and I dont think its gonna come out:) They could have had plans to do it a few years back, but to kick it out only for a year(ish) would boost its sales, but I cant see it happening...maybe a facelift:)

the current economical situation renders a any CSL version be it 3 or 6 obsolete, also no m3 touring or 1 series M version the guy only confirmed a M developed X& which was spotted already anyways..

I think the Tii versions are going to be the top of the line for the 1 series, no? As far as the 6 series, the M department will put their design gloves on again and make it a bit more flashy with an ugly Bangle (yes I know, double negative) rear end. It is almost impossible for BMW to pass up an M6.
However, I am still waiting to hear what the Tii packages will bring, and if they will be available to the US.

There will be no CSL Version on the actual BMW Series however anybody will desire it.
The reason is the commercial flop of the current series therefor no one will bye such Cars with higher prices.
