Super efficient, Loremo Will Get a New Appearance
Loremo

66.7 km/l and 220 km/h of top speed

The German-based car maker, Loremo, has taken a different approach to conventional car making. Incorporating elements of lightweight design, great aerodynamics and very small diesel engines. Loremo has given the prototype that was shown at IAA in Frankfurt a new design substantially enhancing the profile of the car's body resulting in more interior room. Loremo has announced that two models, the LS and GT, are expected to go on sale in 2009.

Weighing only 450 kg, both vehicles manage to have incredible fuel economy figures. The LS reaches 156 mpg (66.7 km/l or 1.5 liters/100km), accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 20 seconds and a has maximum speed of 160 km/h. The GT reaches 87 mpg (37 km/l or 2.7 liters/100km), sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 9 seconds and tops 220 km/h.

Besides being very light, Loremo has interesting safety solutions, such as the absence of regular doors. Its front and back end open allowing access to front and rear passengers. As a result, this unconventional design uses less body panels which in themselves are structural vulnerabilities. In a crash, deformation can be controlled more effectively with the use of less body pieces.

The LS engine is a two-cylinder turbo diesel generating 20 bhp, and a three-cylinder turbo diesel producing 49 bhp for the GT. Both engines are located amongst the front and the back passengers.

Since the side of the car has no openings, its structure is stronger than in regular cars. Another benefit is the air resistance. Loremo’s cx is only 0.20. The LS costs 11,000 EUR, while GT will cost 15,000 EUR.

Evolution and design

Streamlined shapes, a more commodious interior room and improved aerodynamics have been on top of our designers' and engineers' agenda, recently. The new design of the Loremo aims at meeting the requirements of the market by some substantial enhancements to the profile of the car's body. Compared to the prototype as shown on the IAA in Frankfurt, lately, the new Loremo above all provides its passengers with a more spacious interior.

Due to our objective of increasing the car's convenience qualities it has significantly gained in height and width. At the same time, we have managed to keep the low air resistance level despite of the now larger front surface. The new stylistic featuring will thus effectively solve the problem of reconciling air drag and aesthetics.

In consequence, the new design does not only help achieve the utmost degree of efficiency but also highlights new aesthetic aspects. The rear end of the cars slopes down a little more and the taillights have become larger. Additionally, the car's face has been reworked to make for a completely consistent overall impression.

Please note, the text above is draft version only. A technical problem caused the story to go public without further access. We are currently working to correct this problem.

i like it!! infact if the draft article is reasonably accurate, i am impressed with the pricing of this car. also i like the design of the car...

the rear is still quite ugly. i'm sure it would be possible to make it look better without hindering the aerodynamics! something just isn't right with those rear lights...

hmmm im not to sure about the design... why do most green cars have to be soo ugly??

why report in km/L? It makes sense to do it so that you can easily convert to mpg, but it isn't the metric L/100km. What would be best is reporting in mpg and L/100km so everyone can easily compare this car to other vehicles.

Yeah, it is a bit absurd, isn't it? LS: 156.9 mpg (1.5 L/100km); GT: 87 mpg (2.7 L/100km)

This car will be sold in small numbers to European, probably German customers, only. It's a brand new company, with a select number of inverstors, not to mention they're having problems developing their engines to fit their final retail price. Thinking globaly at this point wouldn't make sense, hence all calculations are in KM/L. Windows has a great calculator for all other purposes...

you must be american. No the units are L/100km

66.7 KM/L, meaning it drives 66.7 KM on one Litre of petrol and that's the only form of fuel consumption calculation that interests me. So no, I'm not American.

But nobody measures in units of km/L! It is always L/100 km or MPG

I think the concept is stunning but the design doesn't show that. it is a weird looking traditional car. show what you can do without looking back all the time... I'd be proud of a car with taht mileage and wouldn#t want it to mimic anything that is on the road today produced by those ignorant car companies.

It would be cool if they drop in the BMW K1200 GT's 152hp 1200cc engine in the lightweight Loremo.
