Super efficient, Loremo Will Get a New Appearance

The German-based car maker, Loremo, has taken a different approach to conventional car making. Incorporating elements of lightweight design, great aerodynamics and very small diesel engines. Loremo has given the prototype that was shown at IAA in Frankfurt a new design substantially enhancing the profile of the car's body resulting in more interior room. Loremo has announced that two models, the LS and GT, are expected to go on sale in 2009.

Weighing only 450 kg, both vehicles manage to have incredible fuel economy figures. The LS reaches 156 mpg (66.7 km/l or 1.5 liters/100km), accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 20 seconds and a has maximum speed of 160 km/h. The GT reaches 87 mpg (37 km/l or 2.7 liters/100km), sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 9 seconds and tops 220 km/h.

Besides being very light, Loremo has interesting safety solutions, such as the absence of regular doors. Its front and back end open allowing access to front and rear passengers. As a result, this unconventional design uses less body panels which in themselves are structural vulnerabilities. In a crash, deformation can be controlled more effectively with the use of less body pieces.

The LS engine is a two-cylinder turbo diesel generating 20 bhp, and a three-cylinder turbo diesel producing 49 bhp for the GT. Both engines are located amongst the front and the back passengers.

Since the side of the car has no openings, its structure is stronger than in regular cars. Another benefit is the air resistance. Loremo’s cx is only 0.20. The LS costs 11,000 EUR, while GT will cost 15,000 EUR.
