Much like the Porsche 996 to 997 design evolution, the second generation Cayenne will receive a slightly more sculpted body while maintaining the same overall silhouette of the first generation.

When this second gen prototype first hit the streets it was speculated that it was the new “baby” Cayenne fictitiously dubbed, Roxster. However, closer inspection puts this prototype at the same size as the current Cayenne.

Despite decreasing popularity for SUVs, Porsche plans to adapt the Cayenne by offering diesel and hybrid versions. With an accelerated launch schedule, pushed through by Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking, Porsche hopes to launch the new Cayenne by the first half of 2010, eclipsing the next generation VW Touareg which is expected to debut in late 2010 at the earliest.

With U.S. sales for the Cayenne up 12.4 percent for the year and Touareg sales down 11.4 percent, it's not difficult to understand why emphasis is being put on the Cayenne.

That will be a scary thing in the rear view mirror. Funny how they ripped off the spoiler from the WRX STI.

Isn't that quite a general spoiler design? Quite many hatchbacks have a spoiler like that as a factory installed option...

It looks promising... That rear end is not the final shape I think. They welded on a current Cayenne rear end. In some views it clearly doesn't flow with the other lines. S'thing tells me the rear will be less massive.

looks better than the actual one, the rear end is kind of a fake, i expect something good underneath the camouflage there.

I know how this design is made. Everybody who use soap, can try it at home. Take a piece of soap and cut (stright cuts only) the angular segment off to shape a hood and windshield. Then leave it to use in bathroom. Few days later the the Cayenne model will be ready - in general...

Unsurprisingly for Porsche, this does not stray away too much from the original design. Keep in mind that the 911 changes from generation to generation look more like face-lifts. I expect the same with this.
