BMW are currently developing the next generation BMW Z4,it is likely to have its worldwide unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show next year before it goes on sale later in 2009 as a 2010 model. Prototypes spotted in the past have used BMW's annoying signature camoflage making analysis of the model difficult, so to aid you in this process we present a couple of new renderings featuring a paintwork that is much easier on the eye.

The chief rivals for the all new model will be the Mercedes SLK and Porsche Boxster, BMW will continue to offer a large range of engines which will include the twin-turbo 3.0-liter from the 335i and the Z4 M is set to get a new 4.0 liter V8 from the M3. There are also rumours of a diesel being available.

As with all new models, engines are likely to benefit from the application of BMW's EfficientDynamics program, so expect some excellent fuel economy and emission busting figures to come out when it is released.

Additional photos of a 2009 Z4 prototype can be seen on the right hand side and you can also catch a video of it here.

The renderings for the front seem to be quiet accurate. The rendering of the rear looks messed up.

Not much change for the next Z4, but not much change was needed, one of the better designs from the current & upcoming BMW range

I agree. The front is passable - the headlights could be neater and the grille larger and more pronounced. The rear, however, seems all wrong. They will make it more like the new 7, I reckon.

the boot/trunk panel seems to run up all the way to the rear side window - could it be a hartop convertible?

i can't believe they are still using that lame ass engine, the twin turbo 335i.... which puts out 306 bhp. why don't they dump it, like they dumped the 335d, which was also terrible.

Thats one of the best engines in the game. BMW rates it at 300HP, but independent tests have gotten that much at the wheels. Seems BMW may have thrown in a little extra boost. You know, for the kids...

I've never liked the current Z4. A little too much "flame", not enough "surfacing". But this, this is exceptional. I hate renders, cause they can get my hopes up. This one definitely has!

front part seems very nice but I hope rear part will have another look...from the spy photos it also seems to have another shape

The front looks shmick! Anyone notice that there are no bonnet lines shown?? So how would that baby pop? Does the artist rendering suggest that the entire bonnet and side panels (all the way down to the 'side BWM logo') all lift upwardsas a single entity ... perhaps popping up from the windscreen-wiper side of the bonnet, rather than from the front nose (current generation Z4). That would be quite novel.

P.S. Artist added an M3 bulge to the bonnet. Wonder why - lol!

Looks alright (consdering its a chris bangle), My only problem with the current one is the hood is to long for the rear.

Im very upset guys, I wanted to buy a Z4 hardtop coupe for 09' and now they are developing this new z4. I liked the old model so much better because it was a more masculine looking car, my girlfriend wants this car. I love sports cars but now im kindo of leaning toward the lotus. . .is there going to be a hardtop that looks better?
