Top-Secret: Volkswagen to Launch one-liter Eco Car in 2010

Top-Secret: Volkswagen to Launch one-liter Eco Car in 2010
Volkswagen one liter Concept

Six years have passed since VW unveiled the 'one liter' concept car which the automotive manufacturer predicted would go into production in 2012 as soon as the carbon fibre monocoque materials dropped from €35,000 to an affordable €5,000. Following a report by British site car we can tell you VW are two years ahead of schedule and we should see a limited production run of the model in 2010.

The concept was said to be capable of a quite incredible 282 miles per gallon (MPG) or 0.83 liters per 100km, it weights just 300kg and has a 1+1 seating layout.

The production version will come in a little heavier due to additional safety components including ABS/ESP, a driver's airbag, sequential motorbike-style transmission as well as LED head- and taillights. The concept originally had a one cylinder engine, but this is likely to be upgraded to a two cylinder turbo-diesel version for additional torque and horsepower and will be complimented with a mild hybrid kit.

The overall style of the vehicle will remain in tact with the passenger sitting behind the driver and to ensure the optimal rigidy of the vehicle, the aircraft-style canopy door concept will also stay for production.

Pricing is still up in the air, the lowest we can expect is somewhere in the region of €20,000 although it could go as high as €30,000.

I had 1.0 l Daihatsu Charade from 1984, was pretty average 3 cilinder engined car . But the hell ugly VW-s future! That one is a "Green Soilent Day" car where is no dignity, no respect, no class - very economic.

The feel of driving a car like this would be unlike any other. It's light, it's fast, it's frugal. Why knock it?

If anyone whos parents had Messerschmitts will know that this isnt anything new . The econonmy maybe alot better , but also it may not looklike a BMW OR MERC that does 300 mph and make you look a guy with a small dick trying to compensate for what you dont have , its just a very simple design where as in small towns etc its ideal.

Now thats a smart car!!! Ps: not every one in america likes gas guzzling, air polluting cars. I own a 1.8L VW and a 2.7L Toyota and have lots of friends and family that wish we could get the cars that Europe gets. I really want a small diesel truck like toyota use to offer here.

Brilliant, pointing the way to the future of personal transportation. There would be no energy crisis if everyone drove something like this. It's more energy efficient than any hybrid or electric and uses no exotic/expensive technology to achieve it. And, no filthy/heavy batteries either.
