The idea of Porsche employing a diesel in its portfolio is met with a great deal of disgust in many peoples eyes, but nonetheless Porsche will be pressing ahead with their diesel offensive. We already know the Cayenne will get an Audi sourced 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine starting from next year and now following a report by autoweek we can tell you the same engine will make its way to the new Porsche Panamera.

Upon release Porsche will use its tried, tested and proven engine line-up for the Panamera and further down the line a hybrid powertrain which is currently in development will also be introduced. The new full parallel hybrid system is derived from the Cayenne Hybrid, it allows the model to drive using the powerful gasoline engine, emission busting electric engine or both together combining the advantages each has to offer.

Another rumour flying around also states the model will be offered as a targa in the future after Porsche showed renderings of the Panamera featuring a three-panel targa roof.

The German manufacturer has refused to confirm or deny either of these rumours.

Why this POS its taking so long to be released? They are probably trying to make it look uglier but they can't find a way or what?

I don't understand why so many are against Porsche making other types of automobiles. They make great sports car and always will, it shouldn't matter if they decide to make sedans or SUVs. No one ever critizes Nissan for making minivans and sports car, but when Porsche tries expand the brand..poeple freak. Maybe I am missing something.

You know what it is ? i was guilty of it too...Because we(now them) have a notion in their head that Porsche was and only ever has been around to make sportscars which is false. Dont get me wrong, they make AMAZING sports cars not to mention trucks(Cayenne turbo, GTS and S only) and they did create another sports car the 356 before the 911. However with that considered, the reality is that Porsche had been a financial advisement kind of business before cars. So its in their blood to do what is financially smart and what will reap benifits hence the Cayenne and Panamera. So most people now think Porsche is only for sports car and that anything else is sacrilage when thats totally false. Especially given the Beetle was designed by Mr. Ferdinand Porsche...Long before Mr. Porsche even made A Porsche. You cant blame them and its not intentional...but it is ignorance just the same. Like i said...i love this car...and i didnt always like it...but it looks great for what it is, it looks like a Porsche and any top-end model is going to be retardly fast...and likely the fastest sedan in its market segment im pretty sure.

I have no problem with this four-door Porsche is making. Aston Martin has done the same thing with the Rapide. Sure the Panamera doesn't look like an Aston, but which Porsche does? I have a problem with the Cayenne though. And about the diesel, there is nothing wrong with it. We won't always be able to use regular petrol, we have to make the switch. And the first will be to diesel since that is easiest... then when we're ready, we'll be using cars fueled with algae. But the fact that Porsche is using diesel is great, because it means they are putting forth the money to develop more efficient and cleaner diesel engines. Not to many marques are doing that.

Xanavi23 you know what it is, i have no problem with porsche entering into new segments as it makes financial sense. the fact they are now rich enough to take over vw which is after all is where porsche started out with his cousin peichstrieder (blatantly spelt wrong never was good with german) who fell out so he left to set up his own company. the problem my good man is that they are making some absolutely hidious cars. and when they enter new segments it gives them the opprtunity to make a new silloutte that will be as specific to that sector as the silloutte of the 911 is. obviously keep some trade mark aspects so you know its a porsche. but the enter 911 shape???? they did tis with the boxster, front end but not rear with cayenne, and now this. the shape doesnt transfer well to this market, it looks ungainly and awkward, however the shape o the db9 transfers alot easier to a 4 door due to its more standard layout originaly. so to summise my point, porsche moving into new segments good. using a asthetic design ormula that doesnt translate well, bad. the opportunity or porsche to make a new iconic shape in a new segment, missed.

You could be right but ulimitely that depends on the beauty in the eye of the beholder(sounds lame but true). So you dont like the look, which i can understand especially the back end which is alot like a 911 and Cayman a bit. So i agree they could have done a bit better around the back. The front is great but the back needs work. However...the back although not totally, is covered so maybe the nude version will somehow be nicer than it seems, could be wrong though.

I bet that Oil will be at $200 dollars a barrel this time next year , and cars like this will just not sell.

I like the front but overall, it doesn't quite leave me with a lasting impression. The rear view looks simply weird. Longer wheel base, impressive performance, a hopefully business venture? Perhaps, but if I'm going to buy a porsche, it's still going to have two doors! I don't understand why Porsche feels the need to force the design of it's masterpiece, the 911, into all of it's new creations (SUV's, and now sedan). Either it doesn't look right (has more potential) or they could do better, imho. I expect nothing but the best from Porsche but I wish they'd consider making their approach to design more "edgier".

hahah does anyone remember that one top gear episode where they were given a small amount of money to convert any car they want into a limo??? well this POS reminds me of that... not enough money spent on the design what so ever (from what it looks like) expecially the rear (the front end is fine :D). Why can't this be more like that rapide aston martin?? smooth from front to back. This porsche goes smooth... then a little weird, and then just plain ugly at the back lol

Sourcing from AUDI is sourcing from VW. This is such an abomination.

They've sourced from VW before...when the first 912 was made, the base model was equipped with a 4 cylinder from VW.
