VW Scirocco R Series Teaser Real or Fake?

VW normally likes to reserve performance models for the later half of their life cycle. So, the arrival of this supposed teaser raises an eye brow. The all new third generation Scirocco coupe will have its market launch this September in Europe. Unless VW has changed their R-Series strategy the arrival of this teaser seems quite early.
From the heavily darkened image, the few details that are visible show a front end which suspiciously looks exactly like the Scirocco GT24 racecar. Whether the teaser is real or not is yet to be determined, but we have our doubts given the timing and close resemblance to a previously released GT24 image.

Yep, fake. That strapline was used for the StreetKa and VW would know better than to to steal it.
