From concept form in September 2007 to production form in March 2008, the Toyota iQ has been moving at a quick pace. Production starts at the end of this year with market launches beginning in early 2009. The 3+1 (child) layout micro car with 50/50 split folding rear seats gives a swift square kick in the groin to the smart fortwo. Not only is there enough space for 3 adults and a small third occupant, but the overall design with its cute compactness and wheels pushed to the corners makes the fortwo look like a phone booth.
Designed to meet Japanese manufacturer emissions standards of 140g/km of CO2 by 2009, the iQ will greatly surpass that with only 100g/km. Fuel efficiency figures are unknown at this time but 100,000 units are planned to be produced worldwide in its first year.
