Soon after GM revealed the first images of the All New Opel Insignia Sedan a new hatchback protortype appeared on the roads and now as its London Motor Show debut draws ever closer we are able to bring you the best shots yet of the model in full production guise.
GM Europe’s International Technical Development Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany, is responsible for the design of both variants – and it stands out in a few ways. First the coupe-like roof line on the notchback, the new head and rearlights with Opel's new 'wing' signature and the 'blade' side contour. The new design cues continue inside with a dashboard that wraps from the instrument panel to the door, a new feature which will be applied to Opel's future models.
Like the saloon, the Insignia fastback will be available with both front and all wheel-drive. The AWD is fitted with the FlexRide mechatronic chassis system with its Adaptive Stability Technology, but is also optional for the FWD models. Seven engines will be offered at first, four petrol engines ranging from a 4-cylinder 115-bhp unit to a 260-bhp V6 and three new 2.0-litre direct-injection diesels ranging from 110 to 160 bhp.
