Big dumb aussie crap. Anyone can strap a bigger and bigger engine in a basic car... where's the intelligence? The meaty super-efficient diesel (although I realise that diesel is overpriced in Australia so maybe GM-H don't have the incentive).

When Nissan is selling the GT-R in Australia, the price will be almost the same as this piece of GM crap. Australian market is always rip off and maybe that you can call "a market in the third world". Like Porshe 977 turbo cost you $300k+, oh yeah, GT-R is still in the half price for sure, I don't think GT-R is just too good for them.

Um, how exactly is that price warranted??!? Where is the built in value for US$140k?? I don't get this one at all...absurd. The M5 is a much better car than this, and at much less $$$, let alone the M3. I guess I'll just shake my head and look up at the sky for a brief moment...

um dude here in australia the m5 is $70,000 aud more than this and the m3 coupe is $7000 aud more but not as practical but yes i agree this is still a cr*p car

yeah but we get f****d over down here. a m5 is 230k aud, e92 m3 around 180k. so 150k for this hsv is about the same as a cayman s, so its still not in the price range of the euro supersaloons, maybe a 550i.. think thats still more expensive tho

yeah guys, absolutely no point comparing AUD to USD etc. have to look at the prices in the australian car market (so saying that an M5 is cheaper is completely untrue). the 427 is still hideously expensive, but they've already had 1500 expressions of interest, and i'm pretty confident they'll sell each and every one they make.

i'll take it that those people who said "its too expensive" probably live in the US or maybe in europe, where the price of the car should be cheaper due to demand and due to the transportation costs. (mind you it takes at least 24hrs to fly from europe to australia)
Sure it is expensive (in an australian point of view) , but australians usually pay the premium anyway.

erm... down here youre looking at 230k as a base price for an M5 w/o any on-roads, insurance or dealer charges before you even open the bmw extras brochure. 150k for a car with effectively identical power as an M5, in a country that doesn't have the twisty, windy roads of europe is sounding a pretty good deal. and you've all missed the point of an HSV. the purpose of a holden is you buy the base car, buy any of the dozens of $2k supercharger kits and throw out 750 odd hp in a country with wide, long straight roads. and before you even think of bringing up the GT-R, remember this isn't some everyday track car. its an enormous, comfortable street cruiser with the power to pull away from a porsche at the lights when the fancy takes you.

Yeah... Wide straight roads - but most of these puppies will be thundered around in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Not to mention, on the open road, the full-on Australian traffic police and the extensive speed camera network that all serve to make the 8-10mpg this thing might get seem kinda pointless. But - people will buy it for its future investment potential if nothing else.

They should have put it on mars instead and let it idle for a few days, the greenhouse gasses would have been enough to melt that ice under the soil.

There is a reason why this is so expensive, it's because each of these cars basically gets 2 engines. HSV's are partially built up in Holden's factory, including putting the engines in and then taken over to HSV to finish them.
However, Holden can't install the LS7 engine as it is not a standard Commodore engine type, and the firewall needs to be modified to take the LS7. The car gets the normal 6.2L engine (it needs a powerplant to be able to be driven off the line) and when it's taken over to HSV they pull out that engine and manually put in the LS7. That means this car is much more hand built than your normal HSV, and with the low volume of production, it gets an appropriate price.

220 000 aud for an M5 isn't so much.. Or ofcourse it is, (=134000 eur) but you have to pay as much here in Finland too.. Because of the taxes we have..
