There are few career paths that can top being a driver in the Formula One Championships and there are few that have a salary to match. In the case of brilliant but sometimes clumsy British driver Lewis Hamilton, he is spreading his well earned new found wealth after reports surfaced that he has stayed true to his British roots (despite moving to the tax haven of Switzerland) and spent £200,000 ($392,000) on a specialised “LEW 1S” number plate.
Hamilton currently earns a base salary of around $27 million per season and that does not include his sponsorship deals with luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer, Boss clothing, Mobil oil as well as a a reported huge $20 million contract with Reebok. With this kind of money coming in, he could be forgiven for splashing the cash every now and then.
It is unknown which of his cars the new numberplate will be affixed to, but the optimistic driver could well be saving it for $4 million Mclaren F1 LM – a prize he is set to receive if he brings home the F1 drivers championship this year.
