The first part of Chevrolet's pan-European design contest called 'Young? Creative? Chevrolet!' Competition has come to a close and five judges from the world of motorsports and design have picked the first winner.

20 year old Slovenian design student Adi Suminc created a unique new graphic design for the Lacetti / Nubira WTCC race car which will be applied to a racing car during a one-off WTCC race later this year. Adi will join the Chevrolet team during the race weekend to see how the team operates and of course to see his design in action.

Second place went to a duo from Portugal, Rafael Gonçalves and Ricardo Trindade, thanks to their strong branding on the WTCC race car.

A new daring graphic design for Chevrolet's racing car: a young Slovenian student elected for his daring visual arts project

Chevrolet is involved in two major events this weekend, the WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) races in Brno, Czech Republic and its “Young? Creative ? Chevrolet!” Competition.

Chevrolet gathered 5 judges from different background and various European countries to deliberate for the “Young? Creative? Chevrolet!” 2008 best Visual Arts project and elect the third and second pan-European winners.

  • Jonathan Ashman, President Touring Car Commission FIA
  • Wayne Brannon, Chevrolet Europe Executive Director
  • Luca Dotti, Visual Art Expert, Graphic designer, Nudesign
  • Sian Mary Lloyd, TV presenter (BBC, ITV)
  • Marcello Lotti, Managing Director WTCC

The young students were asked to create a new graphic design for the Chevrolet Lacetti/Nubira. The best interpretation will be applied on a racing car officially launched for a one-off at a WTCC race this coming fall.

And the winners are:

FIRST PAN-EUROPEAN PRIZE

Adi Suminc, School: Visoka Sola Za Dizajn, Slovenia

The project presented by National Slovenian Visual Arts winner, Adi Suminc, from Visoka Sola Za Dizajn, received the best appreciations from the judges:

This project “breaks through”, it shows great freedom and creativity: this is a unique approach, out of the box; it embodies the young spirit of the contest.

The winner will be invited to a weekend with the Chevrolet team to discover the organization of such an event and see his decorated car racing. Keep watching..

SECOND PRIZE

Rafael Gonçalves and Ricardo Trindade from IADE - Instituto de Artes Visuais Design e Marketing, Portugal

The panel of judges’ final appreciation: This project has great visual appeal, it is very strong on branding and emphasizes both the spirit of Chevrolet and of the competition.

THIRD PRIZE

Clemence Pineton de Chambrun from Emile Cohl, France

The panel of judges’ final appreciation: We like the idea: building the decoration upon a visual interpretation of speed.

This was the first step of the European competition. On July 30, another panel of judges (composed by artists, designers, journalists) from several European countries will meet in Zurich – home of Chevrolet Europe - to elect the best projects in the four other disciplines of the competition (Fashion, Interior Design, Photography and Video).

Finally, all the winners and judges will gather in Turin – 2008 World Design Capital – for the awards ceremony on September 12.

but the horse doesn't line up in the different views... its gonna be warped when they actually paint it.

this was the best they could come up with for the winner. Hate to see the rest of the finalists.

come up get realy. A black and gold car.... and the horse has nothing to do with Chev. Everyone knows sponsors what people to see their logos on the car as clear as day. that can not be achieved on a dark coloured car.

and before somebody blast me, and say s why I didn't send in a design, well I would have if I'd known about it.

I agree as well, I know of a lot of people at Deviantart.com who would have done an outstanding job had the competition been more advertised.

Dam wish i knew about this comp, the two designs don't really do much for me, who could tell its a horse unless its birds eye view, id rather have a symmetric pattern ( what was there only to entries) that's just my opinion other people might thunk differently_

This design looks like a Subaru WRX. The reason there is a horse is because it is titled Horsepower. I agree this is not the best design out there.

Compleats GM role in car culture like Saab x94 design or jawdropping BS on invironmental issues from the top of company.
