Its gonna need more than a new shifter to compete with the exceptional new SL. LOL

SL is for old ppl. Jag has revitalized their brand and is now trying to appeal to a younger/younger at heart market.

Hey joe_, the XK, SL, XLR, 650, 911 & SC430 all compete for the same customers. From there, customers choose the vehicle that suits there needs. Some people need a drivers car (650,911). Others prefer isolated pleasure (SC430). Some take aesthetics as priority (XK,XLR). Others want a little of everything, packaged efficiently (SL). The average buyer age for all of them is very similar.

I still disagree, there is a reason why all mb products use automatic transmissions. It's because they are trying to hit the market that wants an easy car that says they are rich but not flaunting their wealth. Younger generations tend to show off more, so the SL therefore has to be targeting the older generations.

haha, nice answer. It's like saying "you are completely 100% correct... but I still think your wrong." Seriously, being just a german car fan is the automotive equivalent of being racist.

While I cant deny the underhanded insult in my previous post, I can question your accusation of my automotive ignorance. Which of my statements makes you presume I only appreciate German cars?

Because you just called a car that now looks like crap "exceptional". The old one was way better. Now, unlike what I think was last year, I'd actually take this XK over the SL.

Thats because you fall into the "aesthetics" category Kaamraam. I agree wholeheartedly that the XK is one of the most tantalizing vehicles to gaze upon. The lines are traditionally elegant and executed gracefully. But, theres a lot more to a purchasing decision than just looks (for most people). Get inside and start driving the Jag, and the experience belies its 100K price tag (same for the XLR). The old SL was showing signs of its age, namely the smaller engines, old infotainment package, aging electronics and just average interior. But after driving an SL550, OMG! Makes the XK feel like a first-gen Miata. My personal decision about which vehicle works for me is based on more than just "what the car looks like". And guess what? Actual buyers are the same way! Like I stated before, they choose the vehicle in a segment that best suits their needs. Its called "cross-shopping". Technically speaking, the SL is the most modern vehicle in the segment (recent mid-life refresh) and everything about it is better than the aged competition, (thats kinda the point of a mid-life refresh). Thats why I called the SL out as the leader in this segment. It has the benefit of the most modern technology on its side. I'm insulted by your assumption of my ignorance. It doesn't matter who produces it, I always prefer the superior product! F*** how "pretty" it looks! Pretty didnt sell all those 745s did it?

how many "young ppl" are gonna spend £60k on a car? the majority of these cars are bought by middle aged businessmen... so they're still releasing an XKR-R? what's the XKR-S all about then?

"I don't know that many 60+ ppl" I am gonna ignore the rest of your sentence because anybody I know that is 60+ and still into cars feels that the SL is the car for them.
