New Peugeot 608 Set for Paris Debut?

New Peugeot 608 Set for Paris Debut?
Peugeot 608 Artists Rendering

After quite a disappointing effort of the Peugeot designers in the 607, we are expecting something with a bit more aggression and sportiness for the new generation 608. It is widely expected the new model will draw its design inspiration to the well received 308 RC Z Concept and if sources are correct we could see it as soon as the Paris Motor Show this year.

Peugeot have ambitious targets with the premium brands such as BMW and Audi set firmly in their sights. They have a new head of design Jerome Gallix who is heading the 608 project and he has vowed to come up with a new unique styling language whilst keeping the instantly identifiable shape accustomed with the brand.

The highly recognisable Peugeot grille will remain largely intact albeit slightly updated, but the front fascia will get sportier updates to the lights which will run further up the hood face similar to the styling seen on the 308 RC Z concept.

The cabin will receive some serious attention and with the German manufacturers in its sights, they will surely require something special in this department. A relaxing theme will be incorporated into the design featuring more high-tech equipment including a new GPS system.

The Citroen C5 provides the platform for the new 608 and at launch it will inherit at least some of its engines including the 2.0-liter & 2.2 liter diesel engines and 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter petrol engines, the range will be topped by a 2.7-liter Hdi v6 engine pumping out over 200 horsepower. PSA Peugeot-Citroen is currently developing the worlds first hybrid diesel engine and the 608 sounds like an ideal candidate for the new technology although there is no word yet to confirm this.

Pricing is set to start at quite a hefty £25,500 and will hit dealerships sometime in 2009.

it would be great if it had AWD as an option, and a tuned up version of the V6 in the 407

The new Peugeot 608 will be the worthy successor for lacklusture 607, I hope. She is expected to be equipped with PSA's brand-new 3.0L V6 diesel turbo engine. Since her platform should be shared with that of the Citroen C6(namely also the Peugeot 407), this new V6 diesel would be mounted on her chassis easily. In fact, currently the Peugeot 607 is known merely as Lisbon Airport taxi, namely its prestige is as low as the Hyundai Azera in Europe. Such dowdy 607 will soon become history, but long dowdy history of Peugeot in European executive sector will remain and prevent the new 608 sedan from competing face on face with Mercedes, BMW, and Audi troikas for a while, I expect. The "European Buick Le Sabre" the large Peugeots have long been sensible choice but lacking in thrills and frills certainly. Such doldrum will change in near future, I hope.
