The Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black series is based on the official F1 safety car and incorporates the pinnacle of Mercedes' performance technology therefore any tuner wishing to enhance this package has a challenge on their hands, a challenge Renntech was more than willing to take with the release of their latest tuning program.

The monstrous 6.2-liter AMG engine already pumped out 507hp and 630Nm of torque but the Mercedes tuner has managed to pump this up up to 550hp with an additional 60-80Nm of torque. Achieved with a bit of ECU tuning and the addition of long-tube headers and a motorsports style exhaust sharpening throttle response.

"Real-world performance is all about torque, not so much about a peak horsepower number at very high rpm," explains Hartmut Feyhl, company founder. "It can be very easy to build high rpm horsepower, but to get instant throttle response and mid-range acceleration it is more difficult, and this is where customers really want to feel that improvement."

For additional drivability Renntech has intsalled its own sport suspension system lowering the car by an extra ¾ inch and added carbon fibre stut braces to both the front and the rear along with fully-adjustable camber bushings at all four corners which enhance mechanical grip in fast corner. The Aerodynamics are enhanced with the addition of a front splitter and rear diffuser along with the striking carbon fibre rear wing.

Well they WERE the best until they brought in all these crappy "facelifts". Like the new SL, C, SLK, CLK and E. This AMG Black is insane though. Somebody buy me one

If their reliability was still the way it was 10-15 years ago... But i like this model a lot, maybe if they would use a slightly thicker spoiler (only for look)

I love all cars. BMWs are really cool. But when it comes to elegance and substance, nothing comes close to a Merc. It won't be long before I own one!!!

I think the way this car looks is perfect. I can't wait for the SL Black Series to come out and Renntech to tweak it too.

question: is that a speed adjustable rear wing? cuz i see a hydrolic type thing near the back side. orr maybe that's just to keep it in place going at higher speeds.

It looks like a threaded rod that you tighten or loosen some bolts on to change the angle on the wing therefore increasing or lowering the downforce, basically you can adjust it based on your average speed so that you have the optimal downforce. But you have to do it manually not automatic :(

taking young at heart to a new level... with the majority of Merc buyers being in the Viagra target market, this tuner package only serves to make these older buyers feel like they are driving a true sports car. When in fact, it's still a heavy luxury merc with a big engine.

I'm not sure it's as heavy (or luxurious!) as you might think - especially considering the new M3 is pushing close to 4000 lbs.!

Its not the average Mercedes CLK AMG..its still heavy but its not just a "heavy luxury merc"with big engine.

Who could afford to run it, here in NZ were paying $2.12 ($1.59us) a litre of petrol and that's only 91 octane and with the cars getting heavier, i guess they gotta get in there before that oil runs out hey.

Not being funny, but if you can afford that car then your not really going to be worrying much about fuel.

Sexy car thou!
