If you got it, flaunt it! This saying is something you would regularly find in celeberity circles as each star looks to display their wealth in extravagant ways. One way is normally to buy super exotic cars such as Bentleys, Ferraris and Lamborghinis. In this case spending nearly $400,000 on a car actually seems to be justified, but when a story comes through to our inbox that over in Britain someone paid $390,000 for a Fiat 500, you kinda find yourself drawn to find out more and answer the all-important question – Why?
Upon finding out further information we are pleased to see all proceeds for the sale were for the benefit of charity organisation ARK (Absolute Return for Kids) and some punter seems to have been particularly generous during a fund-raising auction. The Fiat 500 in question was specially designed and painted by acclaimed English artist Tracey Emin and is complete with her signature on the side and was one of four of the iconic Fiats to be auctioned at the event.
The event was held at at a gala reception in the Royal Naval College, Greenwich on the 5th June and was attended by a number of celebrities including Hollywood actress Uma Thurman, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Model Li Hurley. The auction finally raised an amazing £25 million for the charity with also including diamonds, a safari holiday, a speaking role in actress Uma Thurman’s next film, Eloise in Paris, use of a luxury yacht, fashion pieces and other works of art.
