To meet market demand

American consumer demand is shifting, leading to plant closures for Ford and GM due to the drop in demand for trucks. The drop in demand for gas-guzzling trucks and large cars has been replaced with an increase in demand for smaller, more fuel efficient cars like the Nissan Altima.

Nissan announced yesterday that they will start a third shift at the Canton, Miss plant where the Japanese car manufacturer builds its fourth-generation mid-size sedan. Workers from the Canton truck assembly line will move to the Altima shift in a 'workforce rebalance' operation which will start June 23 with full production commencing early September.

The Nissan Altima has set a new monthly sales record in May, reaching 34,428 units sold across the Altima range (including sedan, hybrid and coupe models) an increase of 38% over last year's sales numbers.

“With flexibility built into our systems, we’re able to quickly adapt to the changing landscape of the marketplace,” said Bill Krueger, senior vice president of Manufacturing, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, and Total Customer Satisfaction for the Americas at Nissan North America.

that's weird, cause I thought the front was bland but the shoulders on the rear of the 2 door altima were very sporty, and very reminisscent of the new GTR.

I drive a 06 3.5L 4dr altima stick. The only thing missing from that car is rwd. Do you guys think someone can make it RWD with g35 parts? I know you can make a custom carbon fiber drive shaft so that wouldnt be a problem. O and if anyone here does get a 3.5 altima CHANGE THE TIRES!!! Trust me the ones they put on it will make you feel like your driving an american muscle car. Wheel spin is crazy on them, but they last long. I put lower profile tires on my car and a little wider. 235/45/17 falken fk-452 instead of 215/55/17 turanza crap. Your 0-60 improves, braking, and its little lower and more stable on the freeway (more than it was already). If you put better tires you will be faster than the new accord 2dr, but if you dont you will be .1 sec slower. Also get the SE and not the SL. SE has bigger rims and and a sport tuned suspension. Honestly if you have the money go for the G37, espically if you are thinking about tuning it. There is very little room to do anything in the 3.5 altima engine bay.

it wouldn't be impossible but you should look into trading it for a 2002+ Nissan Skyline they come in different ranges but they dont use the old turbos any more they have the 2.5v6, 3.0v6 and 3.5 ( same as yours i think) but are RWD and some have the hicas steering system and the transmissions range 6sd man or 5sp tiptronic and 8sp tiptronic, the 2008 skylines have a nice looking 3.7v6 quad cam vvlt direct injection, and have 333hp i think. you should look into it the performance from the RWD and because the skylines have the new chassis with the engine sitting back over the front wheels so they call it front mid engine.
