Much has already been said of the upcoming Cadillac CTS-V. Much yes, but enough? We don’t think so. Anyone who claims to be capable of obliterating a BMW M5 deserves to be looked at much closer. This is exactly the claim of Bob Lutz regarding the 2009 MY Cadillac CTS-V. We know that big Bob is not one to hold back the swiftness of his tongue, but this time he may be on to something. Something quite special.

Previously we knew very little of the CTS-V but now official figures have been declared, along them a silent invitation to everyone out there to sample CTS-V. Who wouldn’t want 556 bhp foaming at the mouth at 6,100 rpm from under his right foot? What type of fool would say no to 551 pound-feet of torque at 3,800 rpm, both translating to a sprint time of 3.9 seconds 0 to 60 mph? Does it make sense to refuse something capable of a 12 second quarter mile?

GM is quite confident of these figures, big figures produced by an equally big engine measuring 6.2-liters in displacement and brided by a supercharger. At the driver’s disposal are two gearbox choices; one 6-speed automatic and one 6-speed manual. The auto will take you up to a 175 mph to end while with manual you can get as dizzy as 191 mph. Where would that leave the Europeans who limit themselves to a merely mortal 155 mph then? A good question. A better question however would be, exactly how talented is this American super athlete around places where the road ain’t straight? Was that 7m59s official time real?

still not enough to dethrone the RS6's 580PS 5.2 twin turbo V10

OMG, 580PS and AWD? A hearty launch could induce whiplash.

oh but it is, with a 0.7 faster 0-60 time and the ability to travel 36mph faster. The RS6 falls behind cause it's a heavy station wagon...

hate to break it to you (even though i'm an audi fan), the rs6 is just too damn fat lol... i'd take this over that specific audi. unfortuneatly even with audi's reliability, and german engineering, i'd still go for this.

It is a great looking car, with a great engine, and beautifully engineered. Please let's not make this an America vs. Europe matter. It is ridiculously immature to hate a car just because it is not from one's region. I am American and I am not ashamed to say that I am a fan of Mercedes-Benz. I don't care about the fact that 80% of Germans hate my country?I just love MB. Why do people bash this beauty just because it is American? I will NEVER understand the levels of fanaticism of some people.

Real car fans will love cars from many different places. Immature kiddies who know very little about cars will feel insecure about appreciating what they normally don't like. Stay the fan Andres2007, stay the fan.

Agree. I'll tell you that European thing. Definitely, nearby nobody hates your contry here and in Germany too. Just stopless hypeing is a little a bit annoing you know. Its all. By the way, I liked already previous CTS and that one is fine car anyway. In my opinion MB C-class, BMW 3-er and new CTS are best three cars in Europe market today. Yet the "little" BLS, if you know, heavily underestimated here but very drivable and noble car too.

Is it me or does the steering wheel and the gauges look like their from a 05-06 altima and the center look like something out of an Infinity.

I dont think its a lie, caddy has been workin on beating the germans for a while. It even looks like the materials are much better than before.

Jeremy Clarkson drove this thing against an Audi S3 and not only did he love it, The Stig driving the S3 couldn't keep up let alone get past all the way to the finish line!

All that remains is the quality of interior materials, an area where the Europeans still rule supreme.
