First 4WD Pedal Powered Kart for the Trail
Perhaps the next wave in karting fun is the Trailcart. Declaired as the the world’s first pedal-driven four wheel drive off-road vehicle, creator Frank Fraune of Germany has teamed up with AS Group and the two are currently testing prototypes.
The Trailcart uses high-end mountain bike components such as Shimano's Nexus 8-speed drivetrain as well as a double-action mechanical hydraulic braking system. One of the goals is to keep weight below 50 kg (100 lbs) which is typically the limit for car mounted bicycle racks.
Frank, don't forget your helmet!

Well, no. You're bucket-seated, which supports both your overall performance and the forces you can apply to the pedals.
Downhill may be more fun though.

I want one! They should make a variant with conventional 26" MTB wheels. I'm sure it'd prove to be excellent in snowy weather, and could make winter biking possible! Pedal power rocks.

4wd buggy? Sweet! and with bucket seats too. I'd love to take one downhill.

Yah this is long but I it is what it is...
I have seen four wheel drive "quadcycles" on the net a good few years ago so the first it aint. Plus its more like a slow rock crawler with the articulating front end. Trying downhill with that (in other words fast) it would try to pitch you off with any kind of obstacle thats half as tall as the tires if you only hit it with one side. Plus the gear boxes are MAJOR drag and weight compared to standard chain (not to mention COST!). Plus no rear suspension? (dunno about front.) It would be a LOT better with a total chain drive and U-joint axles and solid frame with a arm suspension at all fours. We have been messing with ideas like this and I for one am ashamed as a German that a German would design a machine so poorly. The steering wheel and hand brake is another joke that would only be OK on something like that at SLOW speeds. William
