With a production run of 40 years, the 2CV is one of the most despised, yet loved vehicles the world over. Similar to the Fiat 500, VW Beetle and the numerous other resurrected models, it is speculated Citroen will follow suit with their charming classic of the past. As a sign of the times, the reincarnated 2CV will of course follow a green path with a host of sustainable features and hybrid engines. It just happens that 2008 is the 60th anniversary of the vehicle, and the Paris Motor Show is just around the corner. Hopefully, Citroen will have something to show.
In the meantime, Italian designer Paolo Martin has put forth a proposal that combines the essence of the retromobile with 2CV aesthetics and modern technology. Paolo Martin describes his concept as "a reinterpretation of an unattractive yet brilliant vehicle", made "in total freedom and without external influences."
Martin continues, "Trying to capture the original aesthetic spirit, I tried to draw on this 'design without frills', by keeping the same proportions and adopting the single multifunctional headlight unit..."
In 1936, Citroen produced a 2CV prototype, which used a single front headlamp. Martin has incorporated this feature of a single headlight unit located at both front and rear ends.
