The wait is nearly over, one of the most iconic cars of our times is set to enters its sixth generation when it is unveiled to the world's media at the Paris Motor Show in September. Latest info coming from the German's now states that the all new VW Golf VI is set to get a new entry level engine below the 1.4-liter TSI found in the current generation.
In an interview with Automobilwoche, Wolfgang Steiger, VW's manager for powertrain research tells the new generation Golf will offer either a 1.0-liter or 1.2-liter engine pumping 75 ponies. A final decision on which displacement will be used is yet to be finalised, but we are told it will depend on whether VW goes for three or four cylinders.
Despite the entry level tag the new engine will carry, it will still feature new technologies already seen in some of its larger siblings with the vehicle-interval control from the Phaeton and Touareg and parking assistance from the Touran and Tiguan set to be introduced.
The new engine will not reach the market until next year at the earliest.
