They need to find a better name for this segment.
Mercedes aren't the brightest when it comes to naming their lineup so ever since they called their CLS a 4-Door Coupe', the name stuck...
A coupe is a coupe and if it has 4 doors it isn't a coupe...

In Automotive terms, Coupe, is 19th century French. It comes from the French past participle "couper", meaning: to cut from. The title became popular with shortened horse-drawn luxury coaches. It has nothing to do with door counts.

They increase the wheelbase mainly to maximise interior space, due to the coupe-like profile, it decreases headroom and therefore they had to increase the wheelbase. A longer wheelbase is also more stable & predictable.

To evite looking stretched it would have to have a greater overall length. Not sure that'd be good.

So you would take an E class over a CLS? I know I would choose the CLS anyday. Its basically a better looking E class in most aspects just like the A7 will be a better looking A6. Again, I'd take the A7 over the A6. Why would you prefer the standard model over the coupe' version?

The real thing won't look anything like this rendering so its pointless to compare models in this stage, however, I like this rendering best.

I am not sure this is a sector at all, is it? Surely they are just sleaker saloons that fit between D-segment and limousin class models?
By the way, 4-door coupes are not new. Rover had one in the early 70s.

The way i see this is that there are no 4-door coupes. Coupe is coupe only because there are only two doors in it. If there are four doors, its not a coupe. It may look like a coupe, but it isnt one really.

who the hell wrote this article? "4.2 litre v8 twin turbo". you mean, 5.2 litre with the twins. rs6 has a 5.2, not a 4.2... 600 horses they say? why in the world, if they are going to make this engine, they put a 600 bhp engine in a sedan-coupe, and they don't put it in the flagship R8? i mean, first it was 5.2 with the twins 572, and then 525bhp....whats next, 500 bhp in a 5 litre bi turbo r8? i really don't understand. i think, wait no....i strongly believe that the top r8 should have the 5.2 with the twins and 600 bhp... (at least)

the point is R8 is mid-engined and they supposely have problems with cooling such a big engine in it (as seen clearly on the RS8 prototype burning bright on the Nurburgring).

I guess that's due to the fact that the "normal" Lamborghini Gallardo uses a 5.2L V10 and everyone thinks Audi's gone the easy way and just put a TT on it and stuck it into the RS6. They're related and share parts, but then the RS6's is more likely a relative of the RS4's FSI V8, just 2 cyl. up.

i dunno... if you start from the front and move your way back... its like a stretched A4 sedan lol
but when you get to the last bit of the car, then its pretty cool.. i kinda like it, but i also like the present A8 too

The car looks good but it has missed it's target by a mile. This is not a Coupe and i clearly see that the only area where they have made it different to the other 4 door sports brands in their stable is the length of the boot. They have made it a lot shorter. The S5 still remains king in their stable bar the R8. The S5 in a way has a different profile and stands different to all of them. Why can't they approach the other classes like they did with the S5?

Oh by the way this thing looks like the A4 at the front. The S5 rubbishes this S7. If they had made it a 2 door coupe it would look alot better. This car might struggle against it's rivals unlike the S5.

I think that this rendering is just an S5 which has been photoshopped to have 2 more doors. It would be good if it had a shape related to the S5, but I think Walter de Silver, who designed the S5 no longer works for Audi. Does anyone know if I'm right on that? Regardless, the final production car won't look anything like this, I can't wait to see the final production though.

yes, the head of Audi design is now Wolfgang Egger. Walter de SILVA is a chief of all VW group design right now, so he still sees things over at Audi I guess.
