We have been told about the Nissan GT-R super lap around Germany's Nurburgring, but we are yet to see the evidence. Fortunately an astute fan has recorded a television screen showing full footage at what is said to be a Nissan event display.

Nissan did initially claim the prototype used was a completely unmodified GT-R, but later information surfaced that it did feature a number of small tweaks we are yet top see in the Japanese spec model, but we are assured these tweaks will be incorporated into the Euro-Spec version.

The lap time was announced almost exactly one month a go, and puts it just 2 seconds behind the overall production car lap record of 7 minutes 27 seconds current held by the Pagani Zonda. There are also claims by the boffins at General Motors that the GT-R could well lose its spot to the Corvette ZR1 after Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter said “the ZR1 will beat the track record for production cars at any road course in the world.” But despite the ZR1 being spotted close the Nurburgring early last month GM are yet to make any official announcement leading us to believe the ZR1 was just over hyped possibly for publicity purposes.

General Motors... When are they gonna claim "the official loser against GT-R by far"?

In a stock production car? with absolutely no upgrades, not even tires?

May I then suggest that the Playstation is unrealistic?

In order to have a official record people have to check the car......

May i just add to all corvette fans to not boast this early on. The V-spec GTR which has more power and less weight is yet to come out and on top of that the special edition nurburgring GTR which is the ultimate has yet to come out... sooo really it may beat the stock GTR but please wait and see the times of the next GTR before you say anything :) .. and i doo love the current corvettes! they are something!

Of course porsche will be here for a long time to come. But let's face it nobody will build a faster car for the same price as the GT-R. I'm sure porsche will come out with something crazy to replace the Carrera GT. But there might still be hope for the M3 CSL.

I saw a Heidfeld's lap on Nordschleife somewhere recently and it was around 6:50, but he wasn't pushing the car to the limits at all. I have no idea what is the F1's record lap for this track but I guess it maybe something around 6 minutes.

You forget that this car is stock. When HKS or the 5-10 other tuner companies that specialize in Jap cars begin making parts for this car, it will blow the socks off any porsche. If old GTR's can be bumped up to 1200hp from a 2.8L six cylinder and still handle very well. Imagine what these companies will do with this car.

yeah, the GT-2 in 2005 is as stock as the GT-R who claims the 7:29 imho. the GT-R isn`t slow, but that whole thing is mainly about raising attention for sales and putting the brand into the spotlight. A small tuner beat a GT-R with an old 996 platform and a few (street legal) modifications before it was even born, imagine what Porsche could do to a brandnew GT-R with it with their 3 year old 997 platform and a few upgrades? they could, but i don`t think they feel challenged enough, not even worth a discussion. it´s all about raising attention, nobody will talk about the GT-R in 10 years. but people will still dream about a 911 in a hundred.

catchmyshadow: Remember one thing, see the wheight og the 993, then the wheight of the GT-R, you can't help bu to be impressed that the GT-R, at 1600 KG manage to allmost beat the Pagani Zonda, that is 950 KG with more horses. and the Porche is at what, 1400 KG?? I am pretty impressed by the GT-R, and not to forget the legend of the Skyline GT-R R32/R33: total of 79 starts and 79 wins is what is Epic Legend, the GT-R

Veyron was about 7:36 or 38. But I think they didn't push Veyron to it's limits

Veyron is too heavy for the NordSchleife.

The next big thing, is if the Nissan GT-R V-Spec R35 can actually do the lap in or around 1.25, now THAT is scary fast.

what i meant is, today i have the biggest pen.., tomorrow someone is born with an even bigger one. does that make me the 2nd best or him the best lover on earth?. not at all. at the end of the day there is more to it than just a time on a racetrack, cause it won`t last for too long.

This video means absolutely nothing, A GT-R running around the Ring in 7:29 was never in question, the question is whether it was stock or not. And that question can never be answered...we werent there and we never will be or be able to know. So any opinion either way...its nothing more than speculation.

spot on, different drivers, circumstances on the track , set ups, different realties, everything is possible. i mean the GT-R had to beat the GT-2, otherwise nobody would have paid any real attenton, if u know what i mean. i didn`t pay much attention on the GT-2 time and i don`t give a shite on the GT-R´s as well.Don`t trust such things. u could give me the soulless GT-R as a gift, i would sell it immediately and buy a used unique 997 any time.

I'm just gonna see what the Stig does on the Top Gear track with the GT-R and compare that time with the Porsche time before I make any conclusions...

If you look on youtube you will see the Japs testing this car on a 1 min track. They gave the 911 a 4 car or so head start and the GTR overtook the 911 on the first lap and gained a 3-4 sec or so gain on the second lap pulling away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gRaO69vfuU

June 5, 2008 7:44 PM
eh just a question... I was arguing with some people but say you are given a track that an F1 car can do in about 2 mins... do u think the Veyron would get lapped?

pzigly
June 5, 2008 9:27 PM
maybe not on the first lap, but probably the second one it would probably lap it.
