The Mini Cabrio has been a long time in coming, we saw what looked like production ready prototypes out in the open back in July last year and some slightly camoflaged models appeared as early as 2006. We can't help but think that BMW has delayed the release of the convertible variant of the Mini series, possibly due to the continued high sales of the first generation.
Latest news coming from Dutch magazine Autotelegraaf now states the production for the current generation will end in July this year. BMW will then leave a nice gap to build up the anticipation (and pre-orders) for the new generation with the first models set to come off the production line in March 2009.
The new Mini Cabrio will once again be offered as One, Cooper and Cooper S and will have a multi-functional soft-top which will open part way to give that sun roof feeling as well as the conventional fully-folded solution.
