Up until now the camoflaged BMW 3-series prototypes have hidden the small details that have been revisited by the Bavarian designers on the current generation series. But now these latest spy shots coming out from Germany reveal some of these features for the first time.

The most notable new feature that strikes us when studying these shots are the indicators that appear on the side mirrors and we get to see the styling of the redesigned taillights. The front fascia also appeared to have had a slight touch up with a new bumper, modified fog lights and a differently sculpted bonnet. We can expect to see a few other extremely minor modifications in the cabin and the engines may benefit from a bit of emission optimization.

The updated model will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show this September and launched later in the year as a 2009 model.

The Kidneys are different as well. Damn, the tail lights are still ancient.

I agree. The tail lights just got worse. At least in the previous model you were able to clear out the top corner to make it clear on top and red on the bottom.

funny that this mule has the german air quality sticker on the lower right windshield. green (4) is the cleanest, which all euro4 get...

why would a vehicle with US specs need that sticker? did they just change the bumpers/trunk to get it to US specs???

it seems that the plastic was just bolted on in the front for the US spec plate holder... and the trunk is the german one, space for the EU sized plate...

does this mean that also the EU version will get fron side marker lights?

i hope so. the 5series does have them in the EU version since the latest 5er was introduced, but all the other bmw did not upgrade to front side marker lights, i always thought bmw was very inconsistent with this.... if they change their thinking and upgrade all bmw with fron side marker lights they would be on par with volvo that has been giving all their EU models the fron side makrer lights...

Indicators? Erm... You better look at it a bit better WCF. Those are just stickers, like on every other BMW prototype the last years.

it would actually look kinda cool if this tape around the headlights would be body colored, far better than the current one

Those are just reflective stickers, its true. They've been slapping them on camo'd models for a while now. About these photos though - I love when spy snappers get a 'captive audience' like this; nice, still shots without a test driver flipping us all off - they're great. But doesnt the photographer ever think to snap some photos of the interior when they have the car right in front of them? Even if the interior is exactly the same, we'd know it; and if it was any different we could pick it apart as well. Just sayin'.

I think the car looks a bit better overall. I like the new kidneys. Still, in terms of looks, i still prefer the Lexus IS250. It is sharper and fresher (especially the back lights).
