Latest details of the upcoming Porsche Panamera have surfaced courtesy of Dutch Magazine Autotelegraaf which reports we are likely to see the production for the four-door coupe commence in April 2009, just one month after we expect to see the worldwide debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
Porsche has confirmed that the Panamera will be built at its Leipzig plant alongside the Cayenne, and word coming from the Germans suggest that maximum production capacity is currently 26,000 units per annum, although this could be limited to 20,000.
There have been so many sighting of a number of Porsche Panamera prototypes spotted around Germany usually sporting very little disguising, therefore when we finally see the unveiling we really won't have much to report about. One question that still remains though is what lies beneath the hood.

The Porsche will sell because of its name. The Cayenne got slammed like this when it first came out as well. The panamera is for sure not the most pretty of cars but designers did a good job blending porsches iconic shape. For me, i think the new Aston is more attractive, but i will bet that this drives a slight bit better.
The average person doesn't need this car (not the average price, duh). Its meant for the wealthy man or women who wants a car that drives not to be driven in
Just because I dont have enough money because im still 23 doesnt make me have any less of an opinion or care about admire, and study cars any less. I bought my car through hard work from scratch and on my own. To make fun of me for this just makes you a prick. I think you need to do your homework and look out side the box because if you dont, you wont see the underdog pulling up behind you in your rear view passing you.
The GT will go faster 0-60, but the GTR will catch up in the corners.
24hr Nurburing:
The Manthey Porsche 911 GT3-RSR (#1) and Manthey Porsche 911 GT3-MR (#23) made team boss and former DTM driver, Olaf Manthey, a very proud man as they crossed the finish line in one-two formation. This victory marks Manthey as the only team in the history of the race to win three consecutive years adding to wins in 2006 and 2007. ?This hat-trick of victories is the crowning glory of my career as a team boss,? beamed Olaf Manthey, but it was not without incident as the yellow and green number 1 Porsche plunged into the pits on the first lap as a result of a fault in the cooling system. With no other problems to follow, the GT3-RSR worked its way through the field to capture lead position at 03:30 in the morning. The second place 911 GT3-MR is no stranger to victory as this car won in 2006 for Manthey. Third place went to Frikadelli Porsche piloted by Klaus Abbelen, Dr Edgar Althoff and Kenneth Heyer along with notable two-time Nürburgring 24h winner, Sabine Schmitz, who is also famous for her BMW M5 Nürburgring taxi rides and appearing in TV episodes of ?Top Gear?. As the only woman to make it to the podium, Schmitz is widely held as the most successful female driver in the history of endurance racing.
Elsewhere on the track, other high profile contenders such as the Volkswagen works team and their racing version of the yet to be released Scirocco paid off as it claimed class victory and impressively finished eleventh overall. The second Volkswagen works team Scirocco GT24 finish second and 14th overall.
Bad news for the Sport Auto Audi R8 contender. After an accident on the second qualify session the previous day, the R8 unfortunately never made it to the starting grid. As a competitor in the Porsche 997 dominated SP7 class with the likes of the Manthey 911 cars, it could have made for a different outcome. The Sport Auto Audi R8 vows to return.
Also turning heads was former Formula One driver, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, and his hybrid-powered Gumpert Apollo. Eleven minutes into the race, the transmission malfunctioned which resulted in no forward drive. With hopes of finishing the race gone and anticipation of a huge repair time, Gumpert technicians pressed on and finally fixed the Apollo. With the support of race officials, Frentzen managed to get back on the track for the final 90 minutes. Frentzen at the finish. ?You can look at our result in two ways. On the one hand, we had two lots of problems with the gearbox in the conventional drive system. But, from a different perspective, the brake energy regeneration concept exceeded our expectations.? Aston Martin was another big winner making the best-ever finish at the Nürburgring 24 Hours with three V8 Vantage N24's taking the top three positions in the class.
Forgive me in advance since I could come off as being a bit snobbish.
The GTR is a nice car...I have friends that drive the R33 and R34 GTR's...phenomenal performance for the money and very easily tuned...but drive the Porshce and the GTR and compare the dynamics of the GTR to a Porsche and you'll buy the Porsche.
Over 50 years of experience of developing a sports car and all the track work they have done just cannot be overcome by hyper engineering.
It's the same as hiring experienced workers because they can provide you with the extra 2% that is needed to get the work done rather than comparatively inexpensive studious work-aholic.
Also, in the real world, when someone is about to spend his hard earned money and become owner of a car (especially in the upper price ranges) they do not buy the car just for the performance. That's just like choosing your girlfriend based on her specs (breast & waist size...I've seen that happen and the relationship does no last too long.)
The decisions that you have to make when buying a car that's in the $100k range is a lot different than the set of decisions you need to make when you buy a $20-30k dollar car. There are more tactile and emotional things to consider...and the GTR just doesn't cut it. If a friend of mine told me he was going to buy a GTR...I'd tell him to buy an EVO and invest the rest instead.
This GTR is so different which is why they spent over 6 years making it. The only thing people seem to give the edge to the porsche is in steering feel, but i feel a lighter GTR will remedy that. The new GTR feels sooo much better than the old ones, ive been in it, it feels nice and expensive and feels good on the road. Honestly, If you saw a GTR and a porsche comming down the road, more people will go to the GTR.
The new GTR can not be compared to the evo. Its a supercar. You can compare it to the r33 or the r34 but not the GTR at all. Its so much more faster at the limit and more agile.
The GTR has a higher limit than the Porsche, faster than the porsche and can out handle the porsche. Everyone that has driven it has liked it over the porsche on the road and on the track.
let the rest play on the same league, we need some fresh air. not everything has to be porsche, audi or bmw. i really like the GTR, it has the charm of the newcomer. great lines, great engine, has everything to proof, cannot sleep on its legend. i like that.
what a great comment... no matter which car you buy you are going to get superb performance and you're not going to be upset over which one you buy.
If somebody asks you what car you drive and you answer "A Nissan," who cares? If the same person asks you what car you drive and you answer "A Porsche," there would be a completely different response. Porsche has always been a much more superior car than Nissan in many ways. Although Porsche has a long racing history, you cannot ignore how good the Nissan GTR performs on the racetrack and how much time the engineers have put into developing this car.
Porsche has finally made a car that somebody can buy and actually drive their whole family in (with everybody feeling comfortable) and still feel like he/she is driving a Porsche.
And for the people who say this car is terrible are you fricken kidding me? Are you seriously going to dis Porsche for trying to enter into a different part of the automotive market? Even if this car isn't up to par with the others in its class it is still a porsche. There wasn't somebody when Porsche started making cars that said you cannot make a sedan or an suv! You must stick to coupe racing cars! The X6 is a good example.. not the greatest looking car but BMW will sell every single one of them made. And the car is the first in its class (Sports Activity Vehicle) so you have nothing to compare the looks of it to. I'm sure other car companies will make cars to compete with the X6.
