Power Increase for 2009 Mercedes G-Class

2009 Mercedes G-Class

It may be the most unattractive vehicle in the Mercedes lineup, but after nearly three decades of production you cannot argue with its success. The current generation has already been here for an amazing 18 years since it would first released in 1990, so we must be heading for about the umpteenth facelift by now.

For the 2009 model year we see the G class will get a slightly redesigned grille with the three-bar layout but the most significant change will be under the hood with the power output of the G500 increased to 382hp (from hp) and 530Nm of torque whilst the G55 AMG now gets 500hp. The equipment options have also been enhanced for the new model year with a new telematics system.

Production for the 2009 Mercedes-Benz G-Class will commence in September.

Wow! and I thought I was the only one that completly loved this car! It is so gosh dang sexy its unbelievable! Especially from the back

I always wondered when they were going to completly redesign the thing...

I always get scared when Mercedes-Benz redesigns their cars because each one is so flawless, but they always top it off every time :)

Yeah, this is definitely one of the best MB vehicles there are. Saying this is unattractive is understandable, since the boxy design is quite subjective. But I absolutely love it.

As for the B-Class....*vomits*

I am with you hey, we have this in south africa but only the AMG version. Hoping to get more, especially the G500 coz the AMG is a tad expensive for me but love it anyway.

how on earth could this be considered the most unattractive model in the Merc range when they're churning out rubbish like the new SL and the CLC? i think the G-Wagen is fantastic

hahahahah. oh man they were ugly when they first started production and now they are still ugly and to top it off out dated by about 50 years. As far as styling goes an original humvee looks better, and I think that thing is an ugly box.

haha mom insults. Seriously, why would one want to buy a car that doesn't look new? I mean sure it would be cool to buy a brand new 50's vette, or something that looked cool when it was first introduced... but this is a effing box that never looked cool. The reason why it has sold for so long is because ppl could rely on beating the crap on it and not have to worry about denting it because dents don't make it look any uglier.

try analyzing the Brabus G V12 , joe_limon , you'll find out that the G is worth taking serious consideration. if not ,then maybe it would please you to know that the G was once a NATO mil-spec built vehicle , hand-built at that.

Fell in love with G-class since I saw it 1st, back in 1985. It's an awesome SUV. It stands out from every other SUV and that is hard to do these days, because they all have the same lines and they all look alike. Keep the beast alive for next 30 years!

U cannot be serious. This is the coolest M-B made today. They should learn from this one!

Saw a G55 today and it's a beast. Big wheel arches looks great. I don't like new grille however. And I especially luv the AMG version. 30 year old offroader with an engine from the SLR. That's sick! What a strange combination and made by germans! Weird. G55 is a living dinosaur!

I agree, it's a timeless design, and you don't see many. It's still fresh in my eyes when I see one. I've had the privilege of riding in one too, and it may be a bouncy ride, but you definitely get the luxuries and can feel and hear the power. Keep it going until I can afford one, Merc!

I wouldn't mind if they renewed the interior, but the car itself and the boxy exterior HAS to live forever.

A lot of G class users said that this car is amazing for daily use even when they hit another car nothing will happen to the G ... My friend hit 3 cars with his G class and he didn't even fix it because nothing happened to The G class...

This and the Defender are the best looking SUVs, you can keep your fancy useless crossovers that don't know what they are.

I know that both the G-Wagen and the Defender are terribly good off-roaders, but I'm too young to accept their vertical windscreens. I believe that serious off-roaders can feature aerodynamic looks, so I'm still waiting for them.

funny, according to MBUSA.com, the G-class is in fact an SUV. and by the way, from wiki: Jeep is an automobile marque (and registered trademark) of Chrysler. It is the oldest sport utility vehicle (SUV) brand. who's dumb?

oh I hate it to call SUV. It's an Offroadcar. Who had the idea to call a Mercedes G a Sports Utility Vehicle?! And yes, I even don't like guys who "know" something about cars and call every Offroader JEEP! ahrg
