Josh, it's not like the thing has a camo all over it so you can't tell the shape. Anyway, ofcourse it's not the next European Golf, that would just be silly.

WCF, a million thanks for writing so many stories about out tricky South American car market :) Here in Uruguay, we don't have any car sales rankings by model, but the Gol is one of the most common cars. For my ears, a new generation Gol (at last!) sounds like a true revolution.

Gol doesn't mean Golf !!!
Indeed looks to me some Chinese or Japanese car.

What is the Novo (new) Ka in Brazil- is it based on the current Ka? I'm guessing it's not the Ka we will get in Europe.

The "new" Ka in Brazil are the old with little changes. Cars in South America doesn't follow the europeans. You can be sure that the european new Ka are completely different.

the design has nothing really to do with Volkswagen I think. The Gol you can compare with a Polo. And about the Ka: I can imagine, that Ford will develop the old car for southamerica like they did yet

it is something between Nissan and Renault,
Someone made a mistake....

Sure that this is the new Gol. In Brazil the car market never make sense...

the name is really easy to get people confused, at first i thought this was a spyshot of the next gen GOLF. what a bad name.

In Brazil is a good name. For brazilians are easy to understand that the Gol are smaller and cheaper than Golf.

I actually see obvious resemblance to the tiguan at the front, so this have to be VW. I heard a rumor that this car will be imported to Europe as a Skoda and sold as a competition to the Dacia Sandero?
May 23, 2008 6:27 am
In 20 years of Gol, it never goes to Europe. This car are too "cheap" (like a chinese) to Europe. I don't think so.

actually there are some markets in Europe (mostly eastern) where this car could be appreciated. Here where VW is considered a good and reliable brand, but also a bit overpriced. That's why Skodas are a big success here, as they are basicly a cheaper VWs. This car, positioned lower than the Fabia, would destroy the sales of other budget cars like Logan which actually sells better than many people expected.

BTW, the Versa are a "higher level" than Gol. The Gol are 1ft smaller than Versa. And more cheap.
May 23, 2008 12:31 pm
wow, the versa is the lowest level Nissan here in the states. Back in the day the sentra used to be the lowest. So this car must feel like crap to drive. and it still manages to be an eye soar.
The cube is comming out for Nissan. I wonder where that will place.
May 23, 2008 2:34 pm
LOL!!!! You think Versa is "lowest level"? You really must know brazilian cars!! Here in Brazil we pay 30.000 USD for Versa and 15.000 USD for Gol.

cootje: asif meant to say "the car is dull, therefore it's a Golf".
afterace2: I've heard that rumour too, but it's never been confirmed. However, with a new generation Gol, this is becoming more possible. rlaranjo: the Logan is about as low cost as the Gol, so it would be aimed mainly at Easter Europe too.
The Brazilian Ka is quite longer than the first-gen Ka it's based on (around 3.80 vs 3.60 meters) Rear leg and head room have improved a lot. But interiors remain as plasticky as in every other South American economy car (Uno, Palio Fire, Celta). The Tiida/Versa is light years away.
