Every year there are always a few vehicles in development that gives you that little tingling feeling in your stomach - like you have just scored in a nightclub with someone well out of your league. Recent models that come to mind include the Audi R8, Nissan GT-R and Corvette ZR-1, but now we have new baby on its way in the form of the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series and we have a video of it burning rubber on the superb Nurburgring circuit in Germany.
The very hub of the latest sportcar to come from Mercedes is certainly found under the hood in AMGs 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 which has been tuned to get another 66hp bringing total output to 670hp, although some reports suggest this could be as high as 720hp. Possibly this could be considered going over the top in the German horsepower wars, but hey, we don't mind.
The performance aspect of the model doesn't stop there as the SL Black Series will get carbon fibre body panels and the folding hardtop will be dropped in favour of a fixed roof, both contributing to a greatly reduced weight of 1850kg.
We expect to see the unveiling of the model at the German Grand Prix in July with sales commencing early 2009, but get in quick – only 350 units are planned for production.
Comments
If you see other models from the black series, they all seem to be more aggressive in design.
either way they get now complaints out of me, I like the direction they going with this.
