What you see here is a race prepared version of the Audi R8 which is destined for the Nurburgring 24 hours race later this month in the SP7 class, a project by Michael Düchting, Bilstein and Sport Auto called 24h-Project 2008.

The 4.2-liter displacement from the production version has been reduced 4.0-liters but power output has been increased to 530 horsepower and 353 lb-ft of torque, also check out the additional vent cut into the hood for additional engine cooling Further features include custom built exhaust system, crankshaft and pistons.

The exterior gets a full race body kit with a front spoiler, a huge rear spoiler and rear wing improving the aerodynamic effectiveness of the sports car. The interior has been completely stripped and it gets a regulation roll cage, and results in an overall dry weight of 1250kg – that's 210kg lighter than the road going version.

Front end is from the original R8, but still. The front end does not look aerodynamical at all! It looks like a Veyron from the side view :)

But cool racecar.

man that car looks awkward. The wing looks like a last minute after thought. I don't understand what the front hood vent does (keeps the drivers feet cool maybe?), and why would one install quick release pins on the front hood? the engines in the back...

dude, u dont know a damn thing about autoracing...R8 has most of its radiators and oil coolers in the front like all the mid-engine cars...and all the race prepared cars have enourmes wings, c'z the give down-force...do u think the wings in f1 cars r 4 makeing it SEMA worthy???!...there will be more newes from hightly engineered automobiles, so if i were u i'd kept my mouth shot...

I know shaahinMT was a bit harsh sounding :P but his points are totally valid. the front hood is to let the radiator hot air escape after the air runs through the front of the radiator. It also helps with aero, by channeling air upwards it helps press the car down. The wing is a wing, gives downforce and not for looks. the quick release pins. well even if there isn't an engine underneath there's lots of other stuff that can and will be replaced in an endurance race so the faster the pit stop the better. In racing everything is like a snap on piece, allows for quick changes
