The Mercedes CLK has been on the market since 2003, so development for the next generation will be well underway, prototypes for the new CLK have been spotted on the streets of Germany and also doing some winter testing in Northern Scandinavia. Heavy loads of camoflage hides much of the details we all crave, but that doesn't stop us using our imagination to picture what the final model will look like.
The current generation Mercedes C class will provide the platform for the new CLK and judging by what little we can make out on these photos, the styling will also mimic Mercedes' top selling model, the similarities don't end here as with previous generations, the C class engines will also be inherited.
When the new CLK is launched in 2009 initially as a coupe with the convertible to follow 6 months later, it will battle for supremacy with the likes of the BMW 3-series coupe and Audi A5, we should see the new CLK63 AMG in 2010 with a 474bhp 6.2-litre V8 engine.
