When the Seat Bocanegra Concept was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, we were told the design would act as a template for the recently released Ibiza, but the Spanish manfuacturer refused to confirm we would see a flagship model in the Ibiza series. Now the folks over at Auto Express report the new 3dr supermini has been confirmed for production.

SEAT design director Luc Donckerwolke said “When we showed the finished concept to our president Eric Schmitt, he said ‘I want one!’. And after the positive Geneva reception, there was no way we couldn’t put the Bocanegra into production.”

Power is likely to come from the same 1.4-liter TSI twin turbo engine mated to a seven-speed semi-automatic DSG gearbox as seen in the concept pumping out 180bhp

Fine, but the front lights are still gonna suck in the production spec.

great to hear, I hope for not so much design-reducing work for series

Fine engine choice. But keep the Cupra name, save for a lightweight limited edition.
