Yes it is funny , so how does a 3 litre compare to a 1.4 surly they are totally different engines?? Sounds like oops sorry i didnt mean to drop that 100,000 euros on your desk lol

^ As if. BMW are renowned for their engines. And it's not as if it was a fluke, they consistently appear and have nearly swept the board this year. It's not as if these awards will sway mass opinion, so why rig the vote?

He he he he! i bet most of the complaints here are the the 4 ring stable. BMW will definately be hated ever so more and certain theories will be manufactured just so to spite them. The truth of the matter thoughis that BMW have proved to the world that they make arguably the best engines ever and that is why they just stayed on the fence and let the whole world pretend to know turbo or super charging technology. They decided to hop off the fence and make a turbo 3 litre and hey presto!!! the whole world awoke from slumber. That blue and white propeller says it all - BEST EBGINES IN THE WORLD. Why do you think Merc iincreases there cc's to approx 2.5 more litres to BMW? just so they can keep up.

I don't think that Mercedes engines are always 2.5 litres more than BMW ones. The largest current AMG engine is the 6.2 litre V8, which competes against BMW's 5 litre V10. The difference clearly is not 2.5 litres. Besides, the Mercedes engine seems to be set at rlower output than what it can really manage. I'm sure BMW has its V10 a little down aswell, and both manufacturers may plan to add artificial aspiration devices to their engines. However, I do agree that BMW does make some very good engines, both small and large capacities.

BMW no doubt makes some of the best and fuel efficient engines. It's a pity that their quest to be one of the best car companies in the world is slowed by Chris Bangle. I'm curious who's fault that is, the head guys at the office for not pushing for a change or Chris Bangle himself.

best engine manufacturer eh ? would WCF post a tabulation of all competing engines across the entire spectrum of car manufactures involved , with figures ranging from maximum generated engine horsepower , torque , and the ever - practically important mileage consumption per gallon for a more in-depth analysis of the Award Organizer's findings. now that would really level the playing field .

There is more to the judging in these awards but figures. They also take note of the components and materials used in the engines, as well as the engineering. Brocky I think Bangle has been hit and miss. The 3 series coupe is great, yet the sedan is rather sedate (excuse my pun). The 5 series is nice as long as it's the M Sport. The X3 horrid, yet the X5 is the best looking big 4x4 on the market. The 1 series - a little bread bin but the coupe makes it work. I think BMW need to be a little more consistent with their design language success and I believe with this second wave of Bangle design, we'll see it.

I agree with Brocky, BMW has it all but design. This Bangle guy should be shipped out to the USA and then we'll be seeing 'flamey' American gas guzzlers. Hoss for BMW.

Reddis, The 2.5 litre BMW engine won it's category last year (award won by Subaru this year). I'm pretty sure that if they were to turbo charge that engine as well. it would simply crush it's competitors as well as give the 3 litre turbo in it's stable a run for the money. That 2.5 litre engine as it was described last year is a master piece. Get last years engine award results. BMW's only failure is it's 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine. This engine is so not BMW.

so does Rolls Royce and is still currently supplying jet powerplants for both civilian and military aircraft , long after BMW and Daimler-Benz quit the scene. but then why is it that RR was not given any top honors ? after all , Rolls Royce Merlin/Griffon powered Spitfires and Mustangs chewed Me109s and Fw190s for breakfast and then spat them back towards Hermann Goering's face , hehehehe

you seem to forget who owns Rolls Royce today...
