Wait... are you seriously suggesting those are spy photographs? I mean, look at the taillights, where the heck do they come from? Not that I didn't like them - I do -, they're just a bit unreal-ish.

I don't get this, how can a Merc C63 AMG detuned power unit sprint from o to 100 in 4.5 secs as claimed by themselves whilst a biturbo V10 RS6 do the same distance in only 4.6 secs. Someone must be lying here and i bet it's Merc coz there's no way i see that C 63 natural aspirated car beating a V10 bit turbo. Can someone please confirm if at all Mercs figures are proven, coz then i'll take my hat off to them coz thats super fast for a detuned engine.

well you've got to factor in that the RS6 weighs in at over 2 tonnes and the C63 will undoubtedly be a lot lighter. I mean look at it this way, the RS4 "only" has 414bhp and that'll do 0-60 in 4.9 seconds (0.3 more seconds with 166bhp less?).

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but apparently a lot of manufacturers don't give the true acceleration of the car. e.g. a BMW 335i's manufacture claimed acceleration to 100kph is over 5 seconds but in real world tests I've heard it can do something under five seconds to 100kph. Maybe the RS6 will be the same and when independant tests are done it will be faster? I would have thought this car would be able to do a sub 4.5 seconds to 100kph. We will have to wait and see I guess.

Audi needs to develop a Hoffmeister Kink as well. It'll make their car look better. I ain't digging the windows

Not that Audi's are ugly.. .they're one of the most beautiful cars out there. Just thought I needed to make that clear.
April 30, 2008 8:19 am
Yes, they are all ugly, having a shape of hand soap, nothing exciting. None of them has a unique external feature that can help one distinguish an Audi from a distance.

i love when the tail is completely changed and the face is left as it was - that's a great facelift !

totally love the new rear look.. think audi is better lookin than merc and bimmer now
April 30, 2008 10:49 am
Thanx for the info sub39h. On a different issue now. Car makers try to differentiate their cars (most prominently the front grill) so as to at least entice a family into buying more than one of their cars and also to give the buyers the satisfaction of "mine is bigger than yours". The big blip with Audi is that there succesful Gothic grill has got to their heads such that it's all they dream of. I mean who would buy an A6 when you can get even better technology now and the same interior set up as well as almost identical dimensions in the new A4. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Of all their cars i think the R8 and S5 are the best lookers and should be the only two to deserve that aggresive look. The rest should get a hyundai look.

Oh well, the pics of the rear are NO SPYSHOTS .. they are photoshopped very badly i.e. the white part in the taillights is much smaller in reality *g*
WCF should write, that those pics are edited. I'd like to see the real SPYSHOTS to make up my mind and I can waive those bad "Artist Impressions"

Wisp is right about buying an RS4...but i still like the RS6 alot especially with this V10, someone said Audis are all ugly...i heavily disagree. I prefer Benz a bit from this class of car but nonetheless Audis are very nice, clean looking cars. I also like the Snout/grill alot, it gives Audis character...you know what it is when its behind you. If i had the cash for numerous cars in my garage, i'ld definitely fit an RS4, maybe an RS6

The C63 is a lot lighter than the RS6 will be. Some magazines have tested the C63 and have got times down to 4.1 in 0-60. The Rs6 if not mistaken is to compete with the E63, which sits at 510hp naturally aspirated. I'm sure the 6.3 (6.2) AMG engine can produce more like in the CL63 @ 517hp. I will take a naturally aspirated engine over an "equal" HP engine, which is turbo or supercharged. A free breathing engine impresses me more than one with a turbo that has 80-100 more HP. The German HP wars? Merc just has to drop in the 65 engine in the E/CLS to dominate this segment or even better, show us what the new 6.3 AMG engine can really do!

The power means nothing when your sitting in an automatic with just two rear wheels spinning. There's no enjoyment to requiring drivers aids to move anywhere.
Get in a 580hp AWD and you'll notice that you can get much more power onto the road.
ps - Turbos are more fun than NA engines.
April 30, 2008 5:19 pm
If you think at all that premium turbocharged engines still suffer from turbolag you should drive a BMW 335i or VW 2.0T model. I can't think of any better examples as to what direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and forced induction can do to a powerband. Immediate torque delivery that seems un-ending is captivating and breathtaking. With CAFE cracking down it is also the way of the future.
May 1, 2008 12:15 am
I agree about the AWD and getting power to the road. As far a turbos being more fun, the issue is lies with the lag response unlike a NA engine where the power is at all levels of the RPM band instantly with the mash of the pettle.
April 30, 2008 7:13 pm
Yea but Turbo lag is only dependant on how the boost curve is tuned and the Turbos in question. In the case of the Audi, the engine will have a nice enough torque curve to hold over until boost hits, it is a V10 after all. Furthermore, im fairly sure that the Turbos on this car probably start spooling at a fairly low RPM range. Even lower if they offer an Engine/Boost tune selector button, think, 3 settings, city, sport, "FUN"...im not sure they will but it they do have the technology im sure, aftermarket firms have had boost controllers for that for years.

I agree with Xanavi, especially now that new Audi's are going to get the new side styling ron the A4/5 and the snout from the A4/5 9already applied to the A3 for the refresh). Audi's "hoffmeister Kink" will be this new wave-shape along the sides, which I personnaly, like very much. I do agree that the current A6 and A8 along with the (early) previous generation A$ were soap-on-a-chassis, but the new designs keeps getting better and better.
April 30, 2008 9:48 pm
You're right it is heavier but with the weight comes the obvious bonus of 4WD...which on nice highspeed runs is nice to have especially with a V10 under the hood ;)

I am the BIGGEST audi fan. I even have human front LED lights face painted.
May 1, 2008 8:37 am
Gosh this car looks sooo boring and old man to me. Almost like I'd age to 50+ the minute I stepped into it.
May 1, 2008 11:44 pm
I guess you have no sense of style or taste Homer. This is absolutely not an old man car, and boring? Its sleek and cool. One of the reasons I like Audi's so much is because none of them look old manish. Some Mercedes, BMWs, Bentleys etc can look oldmanish to a degree. Your an old man though Homer so why does it matter to you?
May 2, 2008 5:06 am
ceven u mole. those tailights are from the A5, also present on the new A4. jesus, stop arguing, it is a great car. get over it everyone. we all now it wont do 0 - 100 as they say `cause a lot of other factors are involved: like the wind, the surface they tested it on and so on and so forth. and homer, go drive ur mercedes if this is old..u octogenarian dope. and stop it with the "which pic is photoshoped or not"....u artists.
