wait. supercharged or turbocharged? title says one thing, while the article says another.

exactly, I guess they meant turbocharged, cause i don't think Audi is going to use superchargers. Still, 350 bhp from 3 liters is preety impressive IMO.

yeah, it's quite a feat. I'm betting that the S4's gonna blow away BMW's 335i when it comes out.

Sorry for the error, my german skills deserted me for a while, it is actually "Supercharged".

motoriety27, it already does, just takes time for people to register that.

Umm... but "T" still indicates "turbo", right? 350bhp out of 2 litres would be impressive. But then they'd also shorten some car's lives. :D

turbos are are a type of supercharger, strictly speaking

No they're not. Turbochargers make "free" horsepower from waist exhaust heat. Superchargers are spun off the engine crank, losing efficiency as revolutions per minute increase...

benz_man, a "supercharger" is any device that uses compressed air to increase air delivery to the combustion chambers. whether it's driven off the crank or by exhaust gases is irrelevant. it's still a supercharger in it's strictest definition

Hello again. German mag AMS says it's gonna be supercharged ( :D ) by putting a compressor in. http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/auto_-_produkte/hxcms_article_511977_13987.hbs This makes me think that "3.0 TFSI" might may be mildly irritating.

So? Toyota beats BMW in sales, your point?

BMW sells more but Audis profits are way higher than BMW and Mercedes. Its interesting that it works out like that but it does.

Finally someone is heading in the right direction. SMALLER ENGINES. This proves that we can get more than enough power out of v6, why to go audi

Didn't the old RS(2?) have a 6-cylinder turbocharged engine, too?

the B5 RS4 had a 2.7 twin turbo V6

can anyone tell me the benefits of detuning an engine? is it for fuel efficiency?

turbo or charger it still a bad car ´cause Audis are too heavy!!! like an american car, termodinamic eficiency and weight relacion are 2 thinks a real engiener must know...learn some from the GTR Vspect

I just googled the supposed V-Spec kerb weight that is 1,490-1,590 kg (according to different sources), which doesn't make it all light. I recently drove the A4 sedan with a diesel engine and it did weight 1,465 kg. quattro and the 3.0 litre engine might up the weight a bit, as may other kit, but it's still not a heavy car. Go figure.

supercharger...turbocharger....whatever. it's gonna be a great car. oh, btw,. ceven, u said about de 2.0 L 350, well..there is. on that special edtion Seat Leon..rally edition i mean. it has the 2.0 l vw engine, turbocharged, 330 bhp. and there are also audi a3's with the 2.0 l with 300 bhp. of course, note standard but...there are. the 2.0l engine is a great engine, small, economical (in an extent), it can be very easily modified..

I know there are engines around with a displacement/hp ratio like that, but mostly they aren't the production cars you get in the end. One of the most weird outcomings of turbocharging was probably the Suzuki Escudi Pike's Peak. xD

My old Merc C32 had a Supercharged V6. Just change the crank pulley for a nominal fee and you're good for another 50hp! I love supercharged engines. Although you end up losing some pep in the high rev ranges they're great for street driving. Good move Audi...

Could be twin charged, supercharged and turbo. A small supercharger for low end power and a big turbo for high boost. VW has that setup i believe on the 1.6L or 1.3 i forget. Nissan did it 10 years ago so its possible.

The next RS6 deserves a "twincharged" 3.0 V6.

350bhp = 260Kw i believe. The question of sprint and top end speed should be in the way the power band is spread coz some cars have been known to kick ass as from as low as 1,500 revs all the way up to say 4,000 to 5,000 revs. Further more some have been known to have high torque and bhp but then thier cahsis should be able top manage all that power. This whole thiong is like various puzzles that you have to balance just so you get it right. Let's wait and see.

Good move with reducing the overall amount of pistons Audi, cause I think it just dose not make much sense to detune an engine of that size (4.2L), only to stuff into a car that size (RS4). Only because you would still have all that weight from the detuned 4.2L. So.... Good job on that. However, to me, it would have been better if the source of the force induction was via turbo. The 3.0L TFSI engine is not bad by itself anyway.
