Marc Lichte is head of exterior design on the Volkswagen Scirocco model, destined to hit dealerships later this summer. The third generation Scirocco sport coupe seats four people in what Volkswagen calls 'a surprisingly spacious interior'.
Marc Lichte explains in the two part interview that they tried to combine sporty car and larger coupe ideals into the small Scirocco, resulting in its extreme dimensions. The new front end is a homage to the original Scirocco, just as the bend in the front window. The distinct shoulder line creates a very flat and stretched image of the car.

not quite there yet , Mr. Lichte .these renderings belie the true visual impact of the actual production car , which in truth ,is far removed from the classic appeal engendered by the original Giugiaro - penned antecedent. true , this is a very challenging act to follow but then the resultant present day interpretation needs a thorough reworking along the front as well as the rear elevations . a more focused refinement in the area of the lower frontal air induction aperture is in order ,which appears like a cavernous mouth of some sort. the rear elevation visually conveys the image of a sagging posterior which is mercilessly being dragged across the road as the car progresses along its course. mightily horrendous styling features for a car such as the VW Scirroco
What a lot of pretentious nonsense, RENAISSANCEMAN. The design works very well and looks better each time you revisit it, as a good design should.
if you are such a big fan of freak shows , GREENFLAG , then this fine piece of grotesquerie certainly does wonders for your disjointed perception.
I owned a '78 Scirocco and like the new interpretation. It's a logical step in the looks and function of the car in light of restrictions and demands of the auto industry (rules and regulations) in the 21st Century. I just wish it was going to be marketed in the U.S.
Lichte seems to be going places with VW. He's the guy that designed the Golf V when he was still quite young. Lichte and SEAT chief designer Luc Donckerwolke (used to design Lamborghinis) will be the ones to watch, whether they stay at VW or leave in future.
