"The 4.63 meter long convertible will be using a canvas top, unlike its smaller A3 Cabrio stable mate".
Remove "un-" from the sentence above and you will have:
"The 4.63 meter long convertible will be using a canvas top, like its smaller A3 Cabrio stable mate".
Violà , now the sentence is true!

or they meant it will be using a retractable hard top unlike the A3??

The point is that the A3 DOESN'T have a restractable hard top though. It is canvas.

Nay - i'd take the coupe any time any day over this cabrio. This is not lekker.

you are South African, so am I. anyway, Why doesn't audi make hard tops instead of canvas? They look so ugly when the roof is up.

What's up with the Audi attack? they launched Q5, then the S3 sportback, after that the A3 facelift and now the A5 Cabrio.

How? With the opera house inspired LED lights? which part looks like a BMW or a merc? Yes i see they all have 4 wheels. BTW who made the first hard top contractible roof?

It must be a soft top: it's in Audi's cabriolet tradition, it's classier, plus a retractable hardtop would ruin the exterior design due to lack of space, even a 3-piece one, because this is a rather big 4 seater convertible. BMW's smaller 3-series cabrio looks awkward with the roof up.

agreed, a soft top is by far classier for a 4 seat- convertible, provide more space and the quality is superb nowadays, i like that tradition. hard tops are only useful for 2 seat convertibles, like the the SL, Peugeot 207 etc. imho.

And the Peugeot 207 looks butt ugly. Hard top only suits certain cars.

Pcsc howzit, glad to know you r S African. The bottom line is that the S5 Coupe looks so good and giving it a canvas top makes it look somewhat dilute and not as appealing as it's sibling. A hardtop could have narrowed that margin. Hard top's the answer.

Hard tops leak... and are heavier.
Plus if you have a cabriolet then you want a cabriolet.

I actually prefer soft over hard tops. Check out the old BMW 3 series rag top compared to the new 3 series convertible. I think the old one looks much better!
Audi A5/S5 coupe looks RED HOT! Audi RS5 convertible? Cant wait!!!!!

canvas top is so yesterday.. audi don have a hard top convertable yet.. merc is amongst the earliest to offer.. now bimmer has entered the fray.. audi should too
