22mpg for the Malibu is about the same as most euro midsize 4cyl cars.

i love the new malibu, and would gladly have one in my drive except no stick... i drive a mazda 6 with a 5 speed and consistently get 28 mpg around town, and pull 34 on the high.. 22 is nothing to brag about. why are american car makers so afraid to let us choose a man tranny? my wife also keeps asking why no wagon?

The Toyota Camry doesn't come close to 45 mpg..The highest rated mpg car currently sold in the US is the Toyota Prius, which gets 46 mpg. Camry's average around 19 city/ 28 highway -- Even the Hybrid Camry gets 34 mpg max -- look it up. 22/32 mpg for a car that size is really pretty good.

no, its no mistake, this car is heavy. But i totally agree with nsn-smk, My Mazda 626 gets around 36 miles highway, and 34 around town because it is a manual transmission. A lot of people are afraid of the manual tranny and it is a shame that they can't put there cell phones down when they drive cuz it would save them in gas.

22mpg average for european 4 cylinder cars- Nonsense, maybe for a V8, for a 4 cylinder more like 35-40

European diesels will not pass US emission standards, but we appreciate the CAFE fines that BMW and M&B pay.

I don't know what you guys are talking about but that is pretty good on top of that its automatic! my 2007 2.3 liter Mazda 3 only gets 29 hwy its an automatic. the manual 2.0 liter Mazda 3 gets 24/32 so that is great that the malibu gets around the same with 2.4 and its automatic.
