It's going to be interesting to see how hybrids fair in a race type situation. Or how long it is going to be before they incorporate hydraulic launch assist into race cars.

Hybrid is the (temporary) future and everyone knows motorsports speed up development so i think Hybrid race cars are a great idea

damn... the amount of energy that recharges the batteries are going to be out of this world...
i mean the amount of braking that goes on in races... which gets used to recharge the batteries... interesting lol

yes and no, with battery systems the industry leaders of hybrid technology are only able to recapture 30% of the braking energy. This is due to inefficiencies in the generation of electricity, storing of electricity, and final electric drive losses. In a well funded race scenario after years of research I suspect this number to hit at least 50%. Hydraulic launch assist is 60% efficient, and is only really effective in stop go situations like racing. Whichever team adopts this tech will be light years ahead with respect to hybrid tech.

so uhh how much for this apollo? $300,000 $400,000 maybe even 500,000 yeah that sound about right. this by far is the most expencive hybrid ever

i hope this "envonmentally friendlly motorsport" idea would NEVER catch on... motorsport is about going as fast as possiabe, no as green as possiabe, c'z its no good...and as far as i know there are no gay, vegiterian racing drivers(there are in motorbike racing though, which is good c'z they kill them selves sooner)

I hope you are making that last statement ironically...
I wish people wouldn't think that speed and environmental friendliness are mutually exclusive- electric cars accelerate quicker than normal cars, hybrids boost performance... come on, the future of fast cars is hybrid or electric, not a 7 litre V8.

dude if going as fast as possible was the case then they wouldn't have regulations in formula 1 or any motorsport at all

"...as fast as possible..." and you are welcome to use all ressources for the best power and torque...
glad to see a Altenburg-Team in Green Hell ;) Good luck to Gumpert
