Bigger is not necessarily always better, and Mercedes is setting out to prove it with their new GLK SUV. The GLK is shorter than the 7-seat GL-Class, hence the K which refers to Kurz or Short in English, but can boast a wide range of features like 4MATIC all-wheel-drive, Agility Control suspension, Intelligent Light System, PRE-SAFE and 7G-TRONIC transmission.

The new Mercedes-Benz GLK measures 4,528 mm in length, 1,840 mm width and 1,689 mm height making it a compact premium SUV like the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.

Here is a quick overview of the available engines:

Engine Power Torque 0 to 100 km/h Top speed

- - -
GLK 350 3.5-liter V6 petrol

yea but keep in mind that the X3 is already 4 or even 5 years old ! I like the GLK more only from the front and from the inside, the sides are overcombined and the rear looks like it is falling apart IMO.

lol at tires. This thing will ride horribly. Look like a boxy jeep/landrover. Have no power. Won't be able to tow anything bigger then a tent trailer. And with 22-23mpg it really isn't much of anything... Think spyshot of the camaro with the hitch... The camaro could probably tow just as much, have more power and get better fuel economy all at once. And it's what many of you consider to be "American crap"

April 23, 2008 7:59 PM
i'll tell u y we consider it crap!! coz u just dont seem to know wat to compare to wat!! :O a Camaro is a sportscar..er.. well, watever it is.. :P n the GLK is a softroader.. how on Earth r u probably for Christ's sake able to compare the 2?? :O

Joe_Limon
April 24, 2008 5:43 PM
how could I compare the 2? well it would be unfair competition if I compared it to a real suv.

*unfair towards the merc

u've actually got SUVS.. i mean luxury SUVs.. Escalade.. hmmm.. looks like the trucks.. well, i mean the lorry~truck looks better than those hugely obnoxius thing!! n well, Hummer?? :O lolx.. is that even close to being luxurious?? :? compare the right cars.. if u wanna compare the Camaro, which i do agree, an American car which actually has the a good mix of quality, style, power n some sense of fuel economy.. finally a car so pretty since the Duesenbergs.. :P yea, if u really wanna compare that, then take on the SLR, SL, XK, 6er... well, i'm sure they'd beat that car in terms of quality... but it'll be a close match.. if u wanna compare this car^^ the GLK to an American car, all i have to say is that there is no such niche car to compare to!!:P

April 25, 2008 6:02 PM
hey Joe.. i shouldnt be blaming u.. the American market doesnt have that much of variety.. i mean American manufactured cars.. u have some HUGE cars.. n then some more HUGER cars n then the HUGEST gas guzzling cars.. n which would leave the whole world wondering y on Earth that was ever built! :O n then the next day u'd find some War headlines!! :P OIL OIL everywhere.. not a drop for my car!! :(:(

You do not buy a SUV for fuel economy reasons... So a luxury suv with no power (potential) that doesn't even get decent mileage sucks in all sense of the word. It'd be like someone making a car to compete against the Veyron, that got 15mpg.... But only had 400hp... And weighs just as much. Who cares if it get's better fuel economy? Super cars just aren't eco-friendly, and neither are suv's. Sure I am all for hybrid's in suv's so that they burn less fuel, after all that is cheaper at the pump. But I am against a vehicle whose designers made a suv with 1/3 more fuel economy by cutting the power in half. I will compare it to the GMC Hybrid Yukon, it get's 21city/22highway mpg. Just under the mercedes, but it still has it's 6.0L v8 with 332hp/367lb-ft. Also, imo the Yukon also looks nicer and has more room to haul stuff around in. This is why I compared the merc to a Camaro, it simply can't compete on any basis with North American SUV's.

boxy, like an suv should be, built in germany like a mercedes should and, as they say... It should be able to go off road, meets my requirements, I want one

Looks like a couple of Subaru guys got a job over at Mercedes. You take your design, change it up (a little bit), throw a few Merc cues in it, and what do you get? The all-new Mercedes Forester.

Mercedes came up with so many classes Such as .. R..B..GL.. and the GLK ..i don't know what is their strategy

I think theyre trying to apeal to everyone, but as far as im concerned the Mercedes line up should be the c class (just sedan), e class (sedan and wagon w/ a coupe and convertible version replacing the clk), S class (sedan and coupe, renaming the cl, because it is an s class coupe basically) glk class (suv,no m and purposeless r class, gl is to much) g class (suv) sl class (roadster) slk class (roadster)

and thats it, just 7 classes.

To the people who do not like that GLK. Drive Renault and you will forgive everything, even X3 and all these eastern "Brambandaleros". GLK is a nice boxy car could replace X6, smaller but not cheapish.

The MB design is not have been, let say, shiniest in a way. Like a milk, when it scrambles you have no choice but just wait for when it will turn to the kind of the cheese. But that one, GLK is a real proof of very good design. Very rear can make "boxy" to feel "sexy" with hint of enlightened gracia.

this car has seriously everything i would ever want... since the coast of fuel is gonna cost as much as diesel anyways, may as well go with diesel, gobs of torque, good fuel mileage, updated 4x4 system that finally works flawlessly, and an SUV... sign me up!
