Roewe 550 Unmasked In Official New Shots
Roewe 550

The Rover from China

These are the latest shots of the new 550 from Roewe, the Chinese firm resurrecting defunct British brand Rover in a surprisingly pleasing but affordable package. With hints of the car's Western counterparts evident in the design, the 550 is a compact sedan model expected to rattle models such as the Focus and Civic in its home market but offer an equally appealing proposition for consumers in European markets.

A fresh new design signals the way forward for the brand, owned by Chinese corporation SAIC Automotive, with 550 styling cues chiefly taken from Volkswagen's Passat, the new C5 and Lexus' GS - albeit in a somewhat more subtle fashion than recent Chinese creations. Premium packaging continues in what these new official photos reveal to be a stylish and assumedly high quality cabin.

An attractive interior space features driver-oriented arched dashboard complete with stylish digital displays and a central tachometer. A sophisticated central console complete with GPS navigation and both chrome and wood inlay finishing show Roewe's commitment to cabin ambience.

Official details are scarce, but a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit has been confirmed for the Chinese market, where the car starts sales next week. European sales are expected to commence later this year with a price tag of between 12,000 and 20,000 euros.

That is beautiful inside out. I wonder how close it is to the ones that come out of their factory if it's suppose to compete only in the Civic/Focus/Corolla-segment. Then there's that small factor of build quality as well.

It sure does look impressive- and quite original (though the interior has shades of BMW) Safety would be my top concern with any chinese car though.

I am guessing that a big chunk of the work had been done before Rover went under, as they have been working on a replacement for the ageing Rover 45 for a long time. I think SAIC retains Ricardo in the UK to do design and engineering work, so that would also explain how this seems more Western than Chinese.

Roewe 550 tossed with fresh 7 series interior with a hint of Passat CC, dressed with Nissan maxima sauce on a C5 Citreon base, mixed to your liking. Enjoy

Strange pictures, I am pretty sure they are all renders with lots of photoshop editing afterwards. That being said it looks nice, everyone should just stop trying to think of who they copied and reserve their judgment to see what it will actually look like.

pscs the safety should be good as it uses a shortened 75 chasis which was extremely strong and held up well in crash tests. i think its a good looking piece of design, the interior is very bmw but i doubt in the quality department.
