Possible debut at 24 Hours Nürburgring

With recent appearances of the Lexus LF-A prototype production version becoming a common occurrence in and around the Nürburgring area, spy photographers have caught something special in its wake. Never seen before, an LF-A prototype in race trim was spotted wearing a more purposeful aerodynamics kit which includes a redesigned front bumper with stacked front winglets or dive planes on the sides, smaller Le Mans Prototype style mirrors and dramatic fixed rear wing. Other significant observations include revised headlamps, lower bumper mounted fog lamps, hood pins, wavy body panels indicating composite or plastic material, roll cage and most importantly a quick-access fuel filler cap behind the passenger side window with carbon fiber mounting panel.

Our spy sources have heard rumours that Lexus will use the upcoming legendary 24-hours race at the German Nürburgring in May to launch the all-new LF-A to the public. Given all of these revealing details, perhaps they're not rumours after all. However, it won't be the production car that debuts but instead this aggressive race variant. So, if it's a race car, then why is it strutting around on public roads? Simply because the 24 Hours Nürburgring is a unique race that allows vehicles ranging from regular road cars, European Touring Car Championship, German Touring Car (DTM) and of course Le Mans GT cars.

There's no doubt that the LF-A will be a hyper car of delirious proportions, but with the likes of a Nissan GT-R V-Spec and GT-R Super GT grabbing all the headlines lately, it's no surprise Toyota wants a piece of the action.

It looks like a car from Fast & Furious, doesn't look like factory options to me.

I think that these 2 years will be the most vivid for japanese maufacturers.. Nissan GT-R/V-spec, Honda NSX, and the Lexus LF-A.. They "finally" got out of the regulations cage of 280 hp.. They will have a big portion of the "affordable-supercars".. I really like that..

this car has had an even longer gestation than the Camaro, just hurry up and launch it before the recession kills the supercar market- you've developed it so make it Toyota!

They have to be sure of everything about thier cars.. Performance, reliability, everything.. Moreover, they are seeking for victroy, and victory takes more time to be taken.. The GT-R had the same time, and look what a car they produced.. same story is repeating here..

Well there still is also a Toyota Supra successor, and the Lexus LF-A will be a similar car but with the different engine setting. Supra will have twin-turbo inline six, and Lexus will have high-rev V10 Natural Aspirated, both will exceed 500HP..... Japanese Supercar era is reborn!

"Gorgeous", I can't really knock that observation too hard because beauty is in the eye of the bespectacled. To me, though it is the exact inverse. I think they should keep it as a race car because it's styling says fabricated this week in a low budget race shop to run in a low budget series. Not too many cars look better with sponsor decals, this one should.

I think the front bumper is temporary and more than likely be changed to something substantially nicer looking by the time the production version is ready.
