Sets the fastest pace on Monday

Felipe Massa is continuing his current high after setting the fastest lap at circuit de Catalunya on Monday. The lap was clocked at 1:18,339, which was a time three seconds faster than Alex Wurz testing his Honda. In fact, no one else came close to this stunning time of Massa, causing a few eyebrows to raise. The team Scuderia is running a new radical front wing.

Ferrari’s main title rival of the moment McLaren saw their tester Pedro de la Rosa come in third, with Nick Heidfeld of BMW hitting fourth spot. The Renault of Piquet jr was fifth, while David Coulthard was the sixth man on the grid.

Slick tyres, which are returning to F1, have also been out there for the picking in preparation for their comeback. There’s been a lot of spinning out of the track on Monday and the session had to be stopped a few times as a result.

Uhh, what the heck? You know, the engine is in the back of the car. And how do you think air will go in these wents, as they are positioned and aligned like that? The vents we see probably start from underneath the car, coming through the body to the top, providing downforce (just like in Ferrari F40). The front wing is also of a new type, very different from what was used in the last race.

Oh btw, could this be the F2009 since they are testing it with slick tires? I've read they're testing the F2009 in their wind tunnel, but I'm not sure if the car is so ready that they've built an actual prototype.

One more thing. Massa also drove with normal treaded tires. His best time with those was 1:22,007, which is a second slower than Wurz's best time. It's all a bit complicated since we don't know who drove with slick tires and who didn't.

Yea, M7, thanks i think before i talk. And like others side...the engine is in the rear, unlike an EVO whose engine is in the front... the Front brakes are exposed as its an open-wheel car, so the vent doesnt cool the breaks either. Furthermore, the complete Nose of an F1 car incorporates the front wing, in a 1 piece design, so yes it is a NEW wing. You should think before you talk.

He he he he... ilove this site. Massas time was not a second of the pace of Alex Wurz. massa was in fat 2.7 seconds quicker than the next best guy being Wurz in a Honda and 3.2 sseconds quicker than the 3rd quickest guy being Pedro ini a MaClaren Merc. That hole is most likely a downforce tool and watch this space, next year most of the cars will have simillar downforce holes on their cars as the FIA are stopping alot of these protrusions you see on the F1 cars i.e. on Maclaren and BMW. Game on.
