Opel Release Own Insignia Spy Photos

TheCarFanatic.com has discovered what looks to be professionally shot press photos of an Opel Insignia test prototype. The only way photos like this can exist is if they were commissioned by Opel themselves. Now, this behavior is a bit strange because typically car manufacturers want to avoid new models being exposed prior to their official debuts for fear of adversely affecting sales of the outgoing model, in this case the Opel/Vauxhall Vectra, and therefore the purpose of camouflaged exteriors depicted in spy photos. However, since the Insignia is scheduled to debut in just a few months at the British Motor Show in July, perhaps it's negligible.

Compared to the most recent spy photos of the Insignia in matte black exterior without its hallucinogenic white stripes, these prototype photos don't reveal much other than an uncovered grille with Opel emblem. However, compared to previously released teaser photos of the new generation Advanced Forward Lighting (AFL) headlamps which show an LED parking lamp and round Bi-xenon projector lens, one of these prototype photos shows a slightly different lamp arrangement with a larger array of LEDs above the main beam and no projector beam.

Other details include a closeup of a tail lamp but this has been previously revealed as well.

i think they are trying to make a little bit to much hype around this car, sorry but it is almost clear already how it is going to look like and i think there is nothing really amazing about it, not to say it is already boring.

It's a very nice car. But the nicest Vectra is the Vectra B forever. The today's Vectra C is terrible.

I like it, it has fantastic proportions, friendly face and sexy curves, no need to mention the superior and elegant interior. Plus this can also be modified with many body kits and exiting bumpers and exhaust pipes (like the ones of GTC). The first front quarter picture strongly indicates the fat rear fenders with which you can have wider wheels when the car is lowered. I would like to see a black one first. Family car of the next decade for sure, compared to Laguna(ugly and too strange), Mondeo(ugly and too long), BMW3 (not large enough with a strange front look also), MB C serie(it's nice but not large enough and it leans too much to the rear creates an excessively long nose), Avensis(too rigid like a rectangular brick block) etc etc.

It's certainly a vast improvement compared to the current Vectra, but you make no sense about the C-class: this car is perfectly balanced (especially in person, not pics), and no FWD comes close to it in terms of style and elegance. And how about the Citro??n C5? Much more interesting design, both in and out.

The vectra B a nice car ? Can i have teh name of your planet so i can avoid it ! it was a terrible car a rehashed cavalier/vectra A , with odd mirrors , The insignia looks to be a good car and will definately give the passat sleepless nights for quality , as for a benchmark , no , the mondeo is still at the top and this may get close but it won't topple it .

yes, I forgot to mention about Passat, the "notchback of the segment", it is also beaten by Insignia. As for Mondeo, even if it is best of all, I dont like it, no matter what size of wheels youy put on it, they still look too small, why ? Becuase its chasis is extremly long, like Q7. Imagine driving one of them in Portugal or in the old alleys of Nice. Vectra B was a nice one, and the mirrors was the first of its kind, so well integrated to the hood.

Why do Opel people give out " spy " photos ? Maybe to kill the car paparazzis, who find them all around the world. They make less money, so they will find less interesting to chase them. And they will be able to keep some models top secret and no photos. Anyway, I think photogaphers will try to shoot the dashboard, and it's going to be tougher. P.S. they should make stronger engines

they had a amateur open day for making photos of this test mule! it was in the news, @ least in germany...!

and opel doesn't build "bad" cars... the have a problem with their image... but their cars are solid and the quality has improved exponentially!!! they need a bangle in heir designer midst! technically they're the best GM has to offer... it's not surprising that GM is rebadging the opel to sell them as vauxhall and saturns... actuallt the whole old saturn line-up is going down the drain and the transition to opel cars will be complete in 2009 i think... i'm not an opel fan boy... but they have done a great job recovering from the mess in the 80's and 90's... back then opels where @ the bottom of the image scale in europe, especially in their homelands, germany an benelux....

"recovering from the mess in the 80's and 90's..." - And not looking at it did remarkable machines: Omega, Vectra, Tigra, Calibra... The problem was only in corrosion.

The ugly design supports opposite materials of furnish of an interior.

Say what?? Try again when you're not on drugs okay. All new C-class generations have been criticized when launched regarding some hard plastics because the reference were the much praised 190 or bigger siblings within the brand, but it's still ahead of the generic FWD competition in terms of overall quality. The ride is simply impressive, feels like a much more expensive car.

For those who are pathological fans of RWD BMWs and MBs, try to fit in the back seat of them for a 2 hour drive, it is not just your backs, hips and legs to stretched afterwards, you will also need some time until your ears catch the sense of normal hearing. No need to mention that it is not possible to have 3 people seated there due to the high cavity for the differential.

When you buy a RWD car in this category it's precisely for the fun behind the wheel. If you need a people carrier then get a Chrysler Voyager. About the "hearing" (??) I assume you're talking about that subtle mumbling that made some sensitive ppl dizzy when travelling in the back seat of RWD's decades ago, it only shows you haven't driven a premium RWD lately.

image may be an issue for opel because they do mot make fancy things inside and outside, they do not have a dashboard of Honda, but the last thing that can be said about is that "they copy cars". They never. Not even a single example can be given. The rear end of insignia looks like the new corsa. In terms od design, opel has always been a frontier, with VectaB, calibra(copied by Peugeot), Tigra (an innovated segment, with a breathtaking rear end), Meriva (the same), Zafira (the same), AstraB hatchback (trunk lid was a unique design) with many other safety features to be first in mass production.

I don't think many ppl are critics with Opel designs. It's true they are personal most of the time, even back in the 60s with nice classics such as the GT or the Commodore GS (eventhough the Corsa's headlights are cloned from the Mercedes CLS...). The problem is that their interior design has never been up to their attractive bodies, at least until the last Astra came around, but there's still a long way to go. Ford isn't a fancy/luxury manufacturer yet their cabins are much more pleasant.

"When you buy a RWD "...If you are looking for fun behind the wheel, you would not buy a heavy 4 door, but get a roadster or a coupe. This segment is upper family segment we are talking about, and we do not compare this segment with s-klasse or bmw 7, I also assume that these were the ones you refer to, but not e-klasse, because even with those you have the noise of the shaft and the differential. getting dizzy has nothing to do with FWD and RWD, it only shows that after growing up, you have never seated at the back :) These cars are not 2+2, the seats are for ppl not just for the kids or the pets.

Nah I actually never felt ill as a kid traveling in the back seat, but I've heard many times that those ppl suffering from motion sickness felt worse in RWD than FWD, and this could make some sense. And no, when I mentioned premium RWD I meant the new C-class. I test drove the C220 CDi Avantgarde last year, and heard nothing while sat in the back. Plus these cars are getting bigger and bigger, that clich?? where you could just fit a cpl of small kids in the rear are gone, eventhough FWD equivalents will always be roomier for obvious reasons.
