2008 Ford Taurus

A blurry mobile phone image of the all new 2010 Ford Taurus has made its way across the web, first appearing on sites like GMinsidenews.net, TaurusClub.com, Autosavant.com and Jalopnik.com. Ford legal department reacted quickly in having the image removed from all of these sites. Judging by Ford's response it seems that the image was authentic.

In what appears to be a design studio, the Taurus is sitting pretty showing some design cues adopted from Ford Europe, more specifically the Ford Mondeo, and in the background appears to be a blurry silhouette of a possible next gen Mustang? Overall, we like what we see as the design appears to be light years ahead of the current bland and cumbersome Ford America designs. As we have seen with recent winning offerings like the new Focus retaining much of its design from concept to production, let's hope Ford doesn't deviate from this Taurus too much either.

Naturally, in anticipation of Ford's wrath being bestowed upon us, we have decided to show you a lame photo of the current Taurus' tail lamp and nameplate. However, in the ever-expanding universe that is called the Internet, surely the image exists on a server somewhere in the world.

looks like a big mondeo....which is good. Lets just hope it's not an europe only design and then force a mildly more barfy version for north american consumption....sorry for the pessimism, but i just learned that the mazda6 will look different from the european one, which, by the way, looks like the best family sedan as of yet. Mazda is gonna kill it in these next couple of years....

I like what I am seeing. Yet, this seems to be a wholly different car, compared with the present Taurus. As I recall, Ford officials spoke of a nip and tuck that would make a huge difference to the car. However, the glasshouse on this car seems totally different than the Taurus.

A definite improvement, though a little Avalon-ish.

My biggest question (concern) is if this "Taurus" is on the existing platform (which I what I'm guessing) or if it's being moved onto more of the Mondeo platform, which would then compete with the Fusion. The problem with the current platform is that it's a full sized platform, not a mid sized. Full sized cars have been a niche market in the last 20 years and they're becoming more un-popular because of gas prices.

as a Brit I don't understand what is the diference between the Five Hundred, Fusion and Taurus?

The Fusion is smaller than the Fivehundred/new Taurus, its between the size of the new Mondeo and the previous Mondeo. The Fusion competes in the North American mid-size class.

The Fivehundred which was renamed "Taurus" after its facelift is a bigger sedan that competes in the North American large car(full-size) class.

ah, thanks AG4 : ) so Five Hundred and Taurus are one and the same... why did they change to Five Hundres for a while then? was the Taurus brand undermined?

Ford really did a nice job with this one. Nothing really new but much better than any Ford I've seen in a while.
