All the Audi fans out there, put 19 April 2008 bold in your diaries. This is when news and info will start rolling off from the Audi Q5 microsite, if you have registered first, to all those interested in the new Q5. Be on a list of those who are first to know about Q5 developments and possible test drives. According to the site, Q5 aims to convince you, rather than persuade you. It is efficient rather than forgoing pleasure, sporty without being unreasonable. The car has been described unofficially by one of our VW sources as "a poser, the Tiguan is the real deal". We'll see.
Audi Q5, conceptualized, spied and rendered, is the new kid on the small luxury SUV block, taking the fight to BMW X3 territory. Later we expect Mercedes-Benz to in the fun with its GLK. Meantime, Q5 is the one to watch with its range of petrol/ gasoline engines and turbo diesels. A hybrid may be in the cards as well. Quattro is a done deal. Engines will be shared with Tiguan, meaning 1.4 TSI, 2.0TDI, 3.0TDI and so on.

"always new. always different"!!! are they for real? just a standard audi with big wheels thats a shrunken q7! give me a break. why do they ALL LOOK THE SAME THESE AUDI'S?!!!! have they just got the one designer working for them?

No offense, but many BMW models have a shared design language with other models throughout the BMW range, same goes for Mercedes. Audi's successful design language is being implemented into their other models throughout the range. They are simply using their heads.

No asfi's right. They really all look the same. If an Audi appears in the rear mirror you never know whether it's an A8 or an A3. At BMW for example the difference between 7 series and 1 series isn't deniable..

No, Audis headlights are different like most cars. but the prominent grill and bonnet is what doen't change. Mercs are different C class doen not look anything like the E class or S class and A/B class. BMW also has more so the smae DNA but they are like fraternal twins or quadruplets if you want. The grills of a seven, 5 3 4 door 3coupe and 1 series are different. The ligts are soo sooo different as well as the front bumper. I cant say the same for Audi but maybe the designer clearly is cashing in on the design as it has pulled in quite alot of fans. Unfortunately the grumbling voices are becoming louder on that design and the Audi design might just find itself stuck in the same mud as BMW Chris Bangle - people get tied of the same coloured rabbit being pulled out of the same magicians hat.

They aren't saying that they are all 100% the same, of course they are different. What they are saying is that unless you really know the car, if you see one driving behind you, you would find it hard to distinguish just which car it is.

yes, they are very similar in looks, and i can tell a lot of you guys are getting upset about it, but they have a certain understated classy look. kind of like honda in a way, albeit like the accord anyway. they make great cars, following the simple yet discretly stylish appearance. we know they can make gorgeous cars - R8, or when they broke the mold back in 1999 (i think) with the TT. the A5 looks great, esp with its led lights, which they are bringing through the range. its simple, yet affective. it sells! besides, if your still not content with the looks, then im sure you wont be able to fault much on the inside. possibly the best interiors?

I like the discussion. Most important these days is really the brand recognition, that comes with a shared design language. One problem you run into is that sharing is mistaken as copying or the design language is based upon simple repetitive use of elements like a grille or light cluster layout. I think BMW as well as Cadillac have mastered a design language that would be recognisable even without a badge or a grill, just by the way they treat surfaces - that is just amazing. If you actually klike the design or not is another question.
another aspect is that BMW seems to have a formula that is flexible enough to even differentiate between standard fare and the x series without copying monstrous wheelwels aka merc ML and S class

Pipo, Audis design language is winning fans world over. The question is how long will it stay as to priority. Like i said before - a magician whole keeps on pulling the same ol rabbit from his top hat loses crowds. Soon he gets to be called a has been. We saw this in Merc. Their E class was so much the same with the S class and people just got tired of the old tank look. The signs are that pipo have started to get tired and most likely Audi will come up with a solution to the tired look. On interiors i'm afriad to point out that the new A4 and current A6 have the same interior. Now this is a problem. Sit in a Lexus interior, or new Honda Type R and then you really are talking lovely and practical interior designs. The German cars just suck in this department - Audi included even though they say it's best of the 3.

this small suv market segment is the least innovative segment of a company's portfolio. you have to expect car companies to implement their bread and butter models to something new. i just hope lexus or benz come out with something radical in design terms considering infiniti, bmw, and audi all chose the safe route.

yeah..they al look the "saaammmeee" but why do they win so many "best car/best design" awards? ill tell u guys why, `CAUSE THEY REALLY ARE NICE. i think only Alfa Romeo has better designs than audi...so get over it.
